It is never like that. It means you can import items without IEC upto 50k but duties are levyied on it.
Above which there will be penalty and duty i guess.

VIPIN_KUMAR

But before this notification many of us were importing goods of value more than Rs. 2000 may be upto Rs. 10,000 that too without paying customs duty......definitely not near the Rs. 50,000 value...Can somebody elaborate on this notification.

Balakrishna Reddy

The limit only indicates the max cost of the commodity you can import without the need of IEC code. That means custom charges will be levied on you irrespective of its cost. But previously people used to undervalue the goods for custom duty exemptions.
When the price of commodity(what is stated on bill) you order is above the limit we even need to pay fine as well as duty.
But the good thing is as the limit is increased we hobbyists need not worry about limit and can order 3D printer or even low end cnc machines.
We just need to pay only custom charges upto 50k.

We just need to pay only custom charges upto 50k - What does this mean? Custom charge we need to pay, totally confusing. Pls explain.

For personal use imports:

Earlier,
up to 2000INR - No need of IEC - Only customs duty
Above 2000INR - IEC needed - Customs duty + Penalty(if IEC not submitted)

Now,
Up to 50000INR - No need of IEC - Only customs duty
Above 50000INR - IEC needed - Customs duty + Penalty(If IEC not submitted)

Hope this clarifies.

Notwithstanding that, this ruling remains in force

IEC - import export code.
1. Only custom duty
2. Same
3. Same as below 50k
4. Custom duty + penalty(if you do not have IEC).
Penalty varies and 50k means it is not for drones and restricted goods as mentioned before

Looks like title is misleading then. we'll still have to pay the duty.

sanjayrai55

Despite everything else, the import of Drone/UAV/UAS/RC aircraft is "restricted" ie need a permission from DGCA. This will not be easily available to say the least. I advise caution
