Today I have received letter from customs stating "Your above mentioned EMS importArticle has been detained by this department for want of follwing documents"
They have asked for below documents.

1. Commercial invoice/catalauge/Price list
2. Proof of payment / remittance
3. DYCC Report

Pl suggest how to go ahead.

Custom officer asked to pay 4500/- as custom duty(41%)+ penalty. Pl suggest.

As per custom officer we cant import items value more than Rs.2000. if amount goes above Rs.2000 it becomes as restriced item and need to pay 41% duty and 10% penalty.

Need help on below shipment as well.

Sounds like the highest rates ever discussed here.  Must be a different/wrong classification.  The rates discussed here were certainly less than 30%, and mostly 25% or less (down to 0%)

But then, there seems to be precedence.

did he show u any official order reg tat or have u asked? if not,ask him to show the GO..

Custom officer shows offical order mentioning good imported for personal use value more than Rs.2000 will treat as restricted and need to pay custom duty and penalty. Gifts allowed upto Rs.10000/- but we need to provide the proof stating it is gift and need to provid invoice for that.

Hey when did you order this item? And also, how many day did it take to arrive India???

How is one expected to get an invoice for a gift?

Sushil, as per custom officer, if this is gift then ask sender to keep invoice copy in the Package so if it gets detained by custom, when it is open infront of you, they will find invoice copy confirming its a gift.

I would suggest you to approach higher authorities in Custom and Excise Office. Meet Assistant Commissioner, this can be helpful!
Once I landed myself into trouble, and the higher authorities helped me to solve the issue!

Well guys, I have paid Rs.2000 to custom agent to get the custom duty+ penalty nil. Yesterday I have received my radio.
