For the customs department... http://www.ipaidabribe.com/  ;D
Actually I'm serious.. We should expose them.. The only way to set them right..
In developed nations people don't have to worry much about getting the item once its in their own country.. Whereas in ours, the real trouble begins as soon as the parcel gets into India.. Such an.. irony.. !

or if you want to ship a bigger package ask the seller to declare only 20% and ship through fedex
nil or hardly any custom duty will be charged

See why i said declare 20% is because
First of all they impose or dont impose is sheer luck
Now if you are ordering a bulck quantity like my dad does
For example a 100$ parcel
If  you declare 100%
Customs duty will be around 40$

If you declare 20%
Mostly they wont even bother to open it
And even if they do
They dont get head or tail of rc stuff
Coz china is able to produce lookalikes at 10% of the original cost...
So that way even if you are charged duty it will be acc to 20$

If we need to import any toys than it needed iso certificates.

superintendent miss-classifieds as a TOY...and they are asking about certificate.

Certificate is not applicable for this...but superintendent says "THIS IS TOY HELI In Dismantle condition"

tej

In memo/notice they had asked me to provide three things.
   1. Invoice, cert. of origin
   2. Catalogue, illustrative literature, drawing, application of goods.
   3. Justification of importers when for actual use.

They had given a email to submit documents but do i/should i go in person? Had anybody experience this before.

It still continues, Now they are demanding bank transaction details for this and they will take value directly hobbyking.
exact words are "please send payment details(bank statement, if any), value will be taken from the site of 'hobby king'"
Now what should i do i had sent them custom invoice that hobbyking had provide which is 30% ($26) of actual value but my credit card statement will show 100% ie. 7k. What ppl do in these cases?

I think ppl should learn from this never to put undervalue on parcel which is large-box at least not below $100, even though i had know this thumb rule always every time but just messed up this time.

moorthy

@nchandra

Just edit the bank transaction to the invoice amount through photo shop and write a letter got 30% discount for Christmas or new year from actual cost.

hope for the best

I had also thought of claiming that I bought it in Christmas sale and was a clearance item moreover to support it is now in backorder at hobbyking. But will they believe on it ?

nairitb

You have to take your chances. Moreover, you have the Customs Invoice from Hobbyking and also your bank statement to support your claim

Just remember that you have to stick to what you tell them at the beginning till the very end.

Well what do you know....I think I really forced the matter at the customs department and they seemed to have realized that my case requires some real brains to work around....So the Deputy Customs Commissioner personally called me on my mobile phone....he said that he had taken up my case personally and said that he opened the package and checked the contents to see if there was anything objectionable, he said that he did not find any transmitter but he did find a receiver..which would require a WPC type approval..I said that I am completely fine with him confiscating the receiver and destroying It but I would like the rest of the order to be shipped to me..he intervened saying that he was about to suggest that very same thing....he said that he would require a proof of payment and the invoice which declares the value of the contents 100% and he said that he was aware of these HobbyKing items as they have a problem of undervaluing the contents of the order...this guy seemed well informed...I said my invoice is already declaring the complete value of the order, but just out of inquisitiveness I asked him by how much is the package from HK devalued usually...he said only 30% is declared most of the times...and also most of the times the buyers are not aware of this as they have it as the default option..well now I was really impressed about this guys know-how about this single vendor in hong kong....he said he needs the proof of payment i.e my credit card statement and the invoice..he also asked me to write an email to him (the deputy commissioner) in this regard.
he specifically asked me to add three points
1)That I don't want to be served with a show cause notice in this regard
2)I don't want any personal hearing with the officer
3)also that this case may be decided on its own merit
I said I will do it as soon as possible,I asked him about the condition of my order and he said that it was completely fine and there was no damage done, he also said that some percentage of the value of the receiver which I imported under the assumption that I did not require any type approval from the WPC will be charged as penalty along with the customs duty...I said I was fine with it,and sent them a mail with all the details,
today I got a confirmation from them saying that the order had been cleared from the customs, this I came to know when the Deputy Customs commissioner BCC'ed me in a mail instructing the superintendent to do so.I hope I get my order soon....Mera Bharat Mahaaaaaan  !! :salute: :salute:

Great news!! I guess that Deputy Customs Commissioner may be a regular BUYER from HobbyKing  :giggle: and even a member of this forum!!  {:)}
