I purchased a small 500mah 3s lipo just to test if the parcel actually comes through. I ordered it via airmail. The parcel is showing held at mumbai customs since 1/3/2013. Since this is my first order from hobbyking dont know if it will come through. The tracking number is RC001765402MY.

Hi Kaushal. Please be patient.

You'll probably receive a letter from the Postal Appraising Department (PAD) of Customs within 10-20 days from now where you'll be asked to send some documents in this regard. In reply to that letter, you can tell them that the items are for your personal use and hence no license is required.

Got my parcel today from HK after 16 days, had paid for international mail...though it was smooth but had to pay customs duty of around 28% on value of $47, online says if its declared as gift and value less than INR 5000 then no duty is levied.

But as get from HK mentioned it becomes company to personnel and may be due to which duty is applicable....tried talking to custom official but all in vain....

Cheers...

My parcel was held in customs for past 8 days atlast got it today.contains module, backlight and other accessories but 41% of customs duty were levied.

But got receipt for duty paid.

Hi everyone! I'm a new member here. I'm 16 and have been in the hobby for over a year.

Recently I placed an order with towerhobbies and used the international air (w/out tracking) option while checking out. Now I know I have to wait a couple of weeks to receive the package. The order was about $62 shipped ($55 value of items). There are no electronics so I'm hoping for a speedy clearance at customs.

I would be glad to know all of your experience with towerhobbies international air (w/out tracking). Also, once the package is in India, the customs officer responsible for clearing the item is at the airport or at the local post office?

Thanks for all the replies!

Customs will clear it in Foreign Post Office Mumbai and then will be send to local post office. If duty levied post man will collect it from you while delivery.

Thanks Moorthy, will inform you all once I receive it. Other than that, has anyone ordered through towerhobbies using International Air w/out tracking (UPS Mail Innovations)? Share your experiences.

PS: The waiting time is killin' me!  ;D  (:|~

Is it safe to order radios from hobbyking now or not?
and
is EMS fast enough? how much time does it generally take to clear from customs?

Firstly, ordering radios from HKing is illegal, and will surely attract custom detention, at this point, you will be either asked to return the item back to the shipper OR to provide many KINDS of documents which you will probably get tired of collecting and one of them includes a certificate from WPC Delhi.

Secondly, EMS is pretty fast, only takes about 4-6 Days max to deliver but cannot guarantee any Custom clearance if you are wanting to order an item like a Tx.

if you order by DHL, then you hold high chances of getting your parcel delivered without any custom problem dont worry, if you order by DHL,it will be surely delivered, but you have to pay some custom duty, more than 0% to less than 60%.

Hi,

I recently bought Turnigy 3D-H V2 3-Axis Flybarless Helicopter Control System w/S.BUS and DSM2/DSMX Satellite Support along with some other flybarless components. Due to my misfortune, the customs dept. caught it and asked me to provide invoice for it. I wrote a humble mail stating that this is for my personal use and attached an invoice copy with it.

To make things worse, they replied back with the following mail:
QuoteWe have received your mail. Your documents have been forwarded to the concerned Officer. However WPC NOC and type approval is required for the transmitter/receiver used and this is a statutory requirement for clearance of transmitter/receiver used in toys/ helicopter/aeroplane and other articles.  You have to take the item to the WPC office under Customs escort and obtain necessary NOC.Then only the item can be assessed and cleared. You can also visit WPC Website WWW.wpc.lot.gov.in/equipment_show.asp to confirm whether the item under import is type approved by WPC. Kindly contact Customer Care Unit of your service provider i.e.Postal Authorities on Tel No. 022-22653621 or email id for inquiry. It is always advisable to follow the instructions given on the reverse of the CN 23/ CN 22/ CP 72/ CP 71 Customs Declaration form (see Google search) at the time of booking for the rapid clearance of the parcel.

After another humble letter stating that this device is not wireless, I received the following letter:
QuoteYou are requested to provide the WPC NOC for release of consignment . You are required to submit the technical specification before the WPC  for getting NOC .

I also spoke with one of customs clearing agent. He told me that he will not be able to help as the value is very less and I don't have any licence. However he suggested that I go and meet the customs clearance guy directly and speak with him and try to convince him  ;)

Given my situation, can anybody suggest me as to what can be done to get the parcel out?

sushil_anand

Recently, I had an opportunity to interact with the A/C Customs, FPO on another matter. I brought up the topic of model airplanes and any issues with their clearance. He said that there was absolutely NO problem with model aircraft WITHOUT radios. Radio equipment, particularly the Tx, DOES need WPC clearance as per rules.

If you have received the consignment in Mumbai, you have my sympathy. The A/C is a nice guy but a stickler for rules. Try and visit the FPO and see if it can be handled at the appraiser level. I think it has progressed beyond this.

Tough luck!

And BTW how can you claim it is not "wireless"?
