Hi All,
its a great forum to get introduced with all great people around.

I recently purchased a toy drone worth $69 (approx) Very less actually around 4500 INR (from Ali Express)
Product name : MJX X102H RC Drone Quadcopter
Link : https://www.aliexpress.com/item/MJX-X102H-RC-Drone-Quadcopter-Profession-Gimble-Can-Add-C4018-WIFI-FPV-Gopro-Sjcam-Xiaomi-HD/32762326510.html?spm=2114.13010608.0.0.Qw7TB8

Now it got stuck in custom :
Tracking number : RB240383388SG
Link : http://global.cainiao.com/detail.htm?mailNoList=RB240383388SG

It says :
[India]Record item customs information (Inb),Air,MUMBAI AIRPORT SORTING OFFICE,Retention reason : Call Customs 022 22671403 Email
2017-06-07 13:30:41

Now I sent a mail to them asking what to do. Kindly help if anybody had to face same thing here in Mumbai.

Will it get cleared at all. It's not a professional drone just runs 5-7 mins.

MJX X102H RC Drone Quadcopter .........

nope .. its gone .. you might get refund once the customs sends it back .
They will ask you for WPC licence ..

or you could try and bribe them :P

:( :banghead: sad case then. But there is no legal way I can get it. How to get this WPC licence? and how much does it cost ?
If it's marginal amount (which i guess will not be) then can be paid.
Kindly help do you know how to get this license.

Thanks Deeshank

Also if anyone have any experience in bribing them (tentatively how much if possible)
I can spend another 3 k max for this product not more than that.  :help:

The actual straight way have very marginal cost. But getting the license is headache and in the end you might not get it. For WPC you gotta show them all the technical data for your rx and tx. In the WPC office they ask letter of recommendation too. The whole procedure is like beating around the bush, not fruitful (at least for avg Indians). Better request them to return it back to seller.

I got a reply from custom saying need NOC from Wireless Planning & Co-ordination wing, Mumbai

exact massage
The item requires No objection from Wireless Planning & Co-ordination wing, Mumbai for its release.

Now I have opened and account in http://www.wpc.dot.gov.in/FolderInfomation/ApplyOnline.asp but getting confused with the options for application.

I thought it has to do with DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation)
But it's WPC (little wired). That means for any remote control toys I need to get approval. this is crazy.  :headscratch:

I'm attaching a screenshot from WPC. If anyone has input kindly help  :help:

I'm planning to raise a RTI against this to WPC. Let me see what can be done.

The product page http://www.mjxrc.com/en/goods/show-X102H-en.html

it says it uses 2.4 Ghz remote .. and as in http://wpc.gov.in/content/11_1_ContactUs.aspx it seems like if frequency is more than 806 MHz it will be complicated. :-(

bedantaguru

raised a RTI DOTEL/R/2017/50384 let's see what happens

vibranthobbies

WPC is the authority dealing with with wireless equipment. Since you have 2.4 Ghz TX/RX it needs Equipment Type approval and Import license.
Part of the procedure I written is here.
http://www.rcindia.org/radios-and-receivers/procedure-for-obtaining-equipment-type-approval-(eta)-from-wpc/
For applying ETA Rs. 10000 fee is to be paid.

Even if you get NOC from WPC, now they may ask you to get DGCA permission.

2.4 ghz is not a problem. For customs the drone is a problem. they let toy grade micro/mini drones in. So you never really know what customs will do with your package

I think you should go ahead and order. this drone is a toy grade drone and ask the seller to mark it as a toy. I am soon going to order a micro drone with 5.8 ghz fpv camera, that could be a problem for customs, lets see

if we order and import any rc items to our country, customs will catch that product. so if the rc product is purchased by a person and he comes to our country is customs will catch that product or not?

ghoshatanu56

Swapnil

Hi Shantanu!
Don't worry, you'll get your stuff in a few days.  :)

At first I was worried too when my stuff was sent from Kolkata to Mumbai customs and then back to Kolkata! But, after a few days it was sent to my local post office.  ;D
