I want to buy a flight controller from JAPAN. It will cost around Rs. 4400 (inc. shipping) (ie JPY6400).
The guy offers only EMS (and the other option is unreg. airmail).
Will I face any customs charges? It falls within the price range and it will only be a small packet.

if it is small and looks less expensive, Ask him to declare 20$ and send.

If it is urgent, then send them a copy of the invoice. It mostly results in quick clearance, but high duty.
Else, wait for next clearance attempt (sometimes takes 3 weeks)

I don't think customs consider sellers invoice as valid proof. They want paypal/bank transaction receipt. You can generate it from your paypal a/c.

@raja, would it be a problem if declared value is less and transaction values wont match? I have recieved customs letter till date but always had invoice option checked. So I used to go with just the invoice.

Oh, I was told on phone that they want bank transfer receipt. So i just sent paypal transaction receipt and covering letter, and they cleared the shipment within 3 days. In my case, invoice on shipment and paypal matched.

In my case they don't match at all. Actual value was $70+ but I declared only $24 since the package is very small.
I'll send them both the invoice and a mod***ed paypal receipt. Is this dangerous?

In IT, our managers always tell us to be more proactive to get good ratings, but in customs case, less proactive is better. So as vinay suggested, better wait for few days or their letter.

Yes i did go ahead with it, but if i would have applied it (showed the forged invoice) i would had been in big trouble cos they had original invoice with original amount i.e. 100%
