yes . dhl charges extra fees . . but for clearing customs ups/fedex/dhl always did it in one day in my cases . regardless of size and cost .

go for UPS or FEDEX . DHL is also good i got my parcel in 3 days from canada but with dhl ul pay bigger extra amount as their fees.
also UPS has so far charged me least customs among the three and they have the most variety of services .
using these couriers parcel will get cleared in time as long as there is no restricted items. or in huge quantities.

edit - if your items create a buzz and you are using ups/dhl/fedex . they will phone u . no need to go anywhere. ;)

Thanks pravesh i am gonna use FEDEX i guess they are good too right??

Dear fellow Aeromodellers ,
Am seriously thinking of filing an RTI followed by PIL in the high court on behalf of all aeromodellers. Very recently the Mumbai airport customs seized
1) 1 spectrum tx 2.4 gh
2) 1 PARKZONE Foam World War I ,Biplane SE 5a -wingspan about 3 feet
from my neice which I had ordered.
The reason for seizing was that :
1) the 2.4 gh tx is not allowed /illegal . they said that it is about 200 times more than allowed frequency.
2) Only 3 channel tx is allowed ,and that mine was 6 channel.
3) They said that even the plane had to be seized as there was a Ministry of Defence notification that all flying objects should not be allowed as it was a security threat. They showed her the warehouse where more than 500 planes n helis were kept n said that they were to be destroyed.
The total cost of the goods was about 19000/-Rs.
Am not  bothered about retrieving the seized good but am willing to take the fight to the courts by filing a PIL on behalf of all aeromodellers. So help me out guys with information about whats legal and illegal ,information with which we can get a favourable mandate from the government so that these custom guys know whats legal and illegal and what constitutes a security threat. information by which we can fight this case . you can email such info to me .

I know one guy name Arvind and he bought one Futaba Radio from Tower Hobbies and it was seized by Kolkata customs. They told him same story about 2.4GHz band. But that guy showed clear his Radio from Custom after showing them these two documents in favour of 2.4GHz band is legal in India.

Go to http://www.wpc.dot.gov.in/faq.asp

Then Scroll down click first two link, you will get two word files regarding 2.4GHz band.

What are the license- free bands? What are the wireless products that are exempted from licensing for possession and use?
Please check the following Links.

1) Indoor use of low power wireless equipments in the frequency band 2.4GHz to 2.4835GHz.
2) Use of low power wireless equipments in the frequency band 2.4GHz to 2.4835GHz

Note: jorden I am not sure about all these legal matters and rules, so you better consult an expert regarding these all information.

This forum is for RC stuff only. In any case, just read through this thread, and you will see what various people have tried from time to time to deal with customs.  There is no "definite" path... it may involve everything from just waiting, to multiple personal visits providing "documentation of various sorts", to seeking help from "influential" people.  Don't ask for details.

I want to buy a Walkera v120d02s RTF Heli with devo 7e. I also want to know buying a RTF Heli online from abroad will make any customs hazards if the sender marks it as Gift Item & item cost under 100 USD in written as it will come with transmitter & weigh around 2.5 Kg. I have planned to buy from rc711.com, they are offering customers to send the RTF as gift item. but if i order a BNF version then how can i fly the BNF as i don't have any TX. isn't the TX comes within the box pack? If i order it through DHL then is it delivered to me without any customs problem??

Hi,
I am newbie to RCIndia. I've been involved in the use of RC aircraft to help in fighting poaching of rhinos and tigers and through that I started working with www.conservationdrones.org and helped get two raptors (fitted with APM 2.0) to Nepal where we fly them over the grasslands and hills to get GPS tagged videos. This helps us to respond to any threats we see. Anyway to cut the story short, I ordered a bixler 2 to help demonstrate the use of this technology to the Government agencies (National Parks, wildlife sanctuaries etc.). Before I ordered it, went online here at rcindia and read thoroughly. The Parcel came by EMS to India on 26th October 2012 and the status read "Customs Retained Reason: Awaiting proof of purchase/value from addressee" in Mumbai. Since the parcel was addressed to Guwahati, inspite of all the advise, I called various numbers I found here trying to figure out who I should send the invoice to! No one was answering the numbers and they would go to automated answering machines or get cut.

In the end I got through to this number of speedpost "022-26156860" in Mumbai and they asked me for something called a "BY" number so that they can find out the status of my parcel. Then the lady gave me another number (022-26156152) to call to ask for the "BY" number. When I called her, she asked for my tracking number and said "Oh, your parcel has been sent to Kolkata customs since the delivery address is in NE India". So then I got the number of the Postal Appraisal Department of customs in Kolkata (033-22480367) and got through after two days of trying (on 1st Nov 2012) and to my pleasant surprise was told that it had been cleared and sent to Guwahati. Today it was delivered at home and there was no customs duty.

So from now on, I am going to listen to RC India's advise - Do nothing, but wait for either delivery or intimation from postal department. Maybe I had good luck, but whenever I got through to anyone (be it speedpost or customs) on the phone, I was courteous and they were very helpful in pointing out who I should call etc.. I think RC India is a great site and resource for people like me and their advise has proven to be right. Thanks and I will be flying only after the 15th of December and will update with pictures.

with best regards

Please note that this forum is for RC related discussions only.  What was in your parcel ?

Regarding customs, this thread has all that can be said/done.  I don't think people here can provide any additional pointers other than what has been discussed/suggested in this thread before.
