Is it a game they are playing?  Get you worried enough to call them and then it's the hint that if you pay something, things move faster?

pranavh

Same status for me now for one week.

And for the other one it still says

Retention reason : Awaiting proof of purchase/value from addressee

but no letter from customs yet...  :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
Really looks like they are holding it back so you will call and offer them  :Rs: :Rs: :Rs: :Rs:

Mumbai custom is worst.

They are holding every shipment. standard reason for retention ... restricted item.

Whether mentioning HS Code on package will be of any help?

How can it be restricted if the sell it to the general public at the local hobby shops?  I don't how gov't works in India but can you write your Mp and tell them kids are being denied the fun and education of RC because some customs person doesn't these are just toys?

May be other Kerala guys can chip in on who assess their parcels.

I believe it is done in Kochi.  Santhosh bhai knows a lot more about dealing with Kochi customs ;)

Anwar-i got the items within 10 days for the two orders I made with hk..no issues with kochi customs and no delay either..my first order was a tx..i read a news article stating the customs at kochi PO is scrutinizing parcels through private shipping agencies more than regular mails

pranavh

Should I even dare to import FPV Tx / Rx and camera from HK, or is it more sensible to ship out of India and bring it in personal baggage?

I guess it depends on luck. With mad courage, I  ordered last week and got it delivered yesterday ;D

So it seems Bangalore customers get there parcels.  Are other Delhi residents seeing their parcels arrive in Kolkata and stay in customs for a month?

Wow, unfortunately I can't depend on luck because I need it for my B.E. project.

On a separate note, 2 entries were added to my HK Rx/Tx status:

Quote2/5/2013 3:53:00 PM    INDIA    MUMBAI FOREIGN POST OFFICE    Record item customs information (Inb)

2/5/2013 3:55:00 PM    INDIA    MUMBAI FOREIGN POST OFFICE    Return item from customs (Inb)

Does "Return item from customs" mean that it is cleared? Am I going to have to pay any import duty?

The other one (with my bixler) is still at

but I have not received any letter from customs. Should I wait it out, or do they not send letters any longer?

Cheers,
Pranav

Wait it out. My last HK parcel was twice returned to Customs, but it came yesterday. It was detained on the 6th Jan!

Yes, this parcel has cleared customs and yes, there will be a duty on this parcel.

Quotebut I have not received any letter from customs. Should I wait it out, or do they not send letters any longer?
We all wait for our parcels - clearance takes anywhere between 1-3 weeks.
If you contact customs, they might say it is restricted item and all such. So, always better to wait

Finally after 6 weeks in Customs, my parcell with 4 lipos (3S 1000 mAh) arrived.  For all the waiting, Customs levied 533 INR tax.  So, in the end, I paid high shipping and high Customs levy.  This is why the RC hobby will take a long time to grow in India.  A simple battery required to fly a simple toy has to go through too many difficult hurdles before the RC hobbyist can enjoy the hobby.  The local shops are on the expensive side but trying to do mail order is just as costly.  Customs needs an education that toy parts in small or consumer amounts should be taxed.  This is a slippery slope.  Soon a 1S lipo will cost 10X in India than anywhere in the world.

Did you order through ems or registered mail ?

theleabres

I ordered via registered mail, the hobbyking $9.99 fee for 500 gr weight.

pranavh

My HK Radio came in 3 weeks with :Rs: 280 duty added on. A big package (containing a bixler and LiPos) is still stuck, for more than 3 weeks now. I'm going to customs office tomorrow, wish me luck :D

theleabres

It seems to me the customs levy is arbitrary and just depends on who is working in the office at the time.  My receipt was just a piece of paper with handwriting and a wet stamp, nothing official or from a gov't letterhead or from a computer printer, no calculations whatsoever on why 533 INR was levied.  With a bog box and lipos, I would be prepared to pay more than 500 INR.  Please let us know.

pranavh

Yes, it is arbitrary. They usually attach a "customs" form to the package, with the duty and the "handling charges" mentioned. My radio came with a 250 duty and 30 handling charges. No signature, nothing. Anyone could print such a paper and levy customs on any package :P

not a 770 but actually i partially remember a guy who bought a 700 size heli long ago, due to its size the customs need some clarification as he stamped "TOY" on top of it. The officer "You call this a toy".. Lastly he paid 30+ customs and later after few days the chopper chopped few tree brushes.. ha haha
