mine too went in on 18th no news yet .........

my parcel is stuck in customs it says "location: Mumbai air" and "event type: Send item to customs (Inb)"
this is something new for me and the shipping mode is Air Mail (registered) from Hobbyking
its been more than a month since i placed the order and now its stuck in customs since 16th of this month.
what should i expect now.

i have ordered 4 motors and esc for my quad. parcel weight 750grams

The same thing happened to me.  You have to call or walk to your local post office and have them send an inquiry.  They they will send the parcel to your local post and ask you for 200 to 500 INR for duty.

lol. That was my first order and I couldnt declare less...

 On arrival in the sub foreign post office, from the 4 metros, the parcels are same presented to Customs Officers for separation of elimination of dutiable and non-dutiable articles/parcels. The eliminated parcels (Non-dutiable) are cleared by the postal authorities to the respective addressees. The detained parcels will be assigned a particular number according to the mode of shipment of the articles like Air/Air Insured/ Sea/ Sea Insured/ Speed/Letter Mail Article etc.by the postal authorities. A 'Way Bill' similar to 'Bill of Entry' is prepared by the foreign post office and the parcels are presented for customs examination along with the waybills. The parcels are opened by the postal staff in the presence of the Customs officers, and the contents of each parcel is noted against the parcel number by the Customs Officers. After the examination the parcels are repacked and are kept in the custody of Postal Authorities until further notice. The goods/ items contained in the parcels are then assessed to Customs duties by the Superintendents. In r/o assessment of goods/items of value more than Rs.5000/- such assessment is countersigned by the Asst. Commissioner. The details of assessment including the duty payable are noted against each parcel in the waybill. The Way bill is then handed over back to the Postal Authorities who deliver the parcels to the addressees and also collect the duties payable, from the addressees.

Robologix told me that from now (april 2013) there wont be any custom on stuff below 300$. Is that true ? Anyone checked the updates from custom taxes on RC stuff?

Wrong info. its a hit or miss with our customs.

they are not supposed to charge anything below 100$ but they still do charge below that also ...so 300 $ we can all just start dreaming bout it

i think the customs guys cannot differentiate between imports for self use and the rest of the lot so even they see anything bling even worth 40$ they want their share in it ...i wish someone passes a standard rule for no custom charge 500$ and below like USA

Can you quote the source of that information?

Not 100$ at the current $ rate lol thereby as a limit to 4200rs which was 100$ once upon a time....custom officer himself a know person

They can have written rules with tables on how much the duty per type item, cost, etc.  It's going to still depend on the collector and how much cash they need that week to buy food or baby shoes.  I was asked for 500 INR for a parcel worth 2500 INR - 20% of value!  When I paid, all I got was a piece of white paper with handwritten initial, nothing that looks official.  Not really newsworthy here.  You guys all know how the game is played here.  Hopefully with time, there will be more honesty, less cheating.

Lots of loose info on this thread. Duty rates are based on HS codes. So if your item falls under HS 9503 which is reduced scale models, the duty rate is clear. If you have an issue, you can dispute. But is a long process and sometimes not worth the effort.

@mail4ajo- What do you think BLDC motors,props fall in the category of? Can you tell me its HS code?

Not sure. Try this, 85011010 -Electric motors and generators for use in toys, output<=375W or 950380 - reduced scale models that has a motor.

So according to this what percent tax will be put?
