Here is a recent experience of me having dealt with customs of kochi foreign post office.
I bought an fpv kit from ebay last month which arrived in mumbai on the 20th.On the beginning of this month i received a letter from FPO asking for documents relevant to the purchase like invoice,use of the item,payment particular etc.As soon i received this, i personally went to the office to give a copy of the invoice.When i got home i received a call from them saying the invoice was vague.One thing i noticed while visiting their office and talking on the phone was that they were really pleasant people.Then i sent the documents through courier.And today i got a call and they asked me to issue a DD for 800 rupees in favor of the commissioner of customs and pay a duty of 945 rupees when the postman delivers it.

I need to know the authenticity of this,they told me that the 800 bucks is for the fine they slapped me for importing electronic goods worth above 2000rs.And the rest as duty.Btw i declared a low value like 2250.Is it true that we can't bring electronic goods worth above 2k?
On the whole i am happy that my fpv "1.2ghz" tx and rx got through customs without much scrutiny 

muradshak  : even i have faced same problem with customs.When i ordered Turnigy 9X from HobbyKing  i didn't received any letter from FPO for quite times then i only called them up and asked about procedure and the next day i got letter from FPO asking for documents.then i made acknowledgement letter and attached invoice copy and sent to FPO Bangalore.After 3 days i got letter from local post office to pay Rs.499 custom duty for my parcel. i have declared only $18 in the package. but finally i got the Radio 

At some FPO's they dont realize that a radio is a restricted item..Good for us

it is bixler plane i was very worried about it..when it was not cleared for more than two days i was in so much tension now i am relaxed i had no problem in paying customs....this is just 2.5kg i had one shipped 3.5kg one with no custom there i declared 30% now i declared 100% cause dont want to risk the parcel just because of custom duties..

firstly dont contact customs for 10-15 days when your parcel arrived india they will get suspicious and if its is a high value parcel they will clear it with some customs that you will have to pay to the postman..Wish you luck that your one gets clear

i had also ordered and rc airplane YAK 54 from china and same thing happened, it got stuck in F.P.O ahmedabad. i contacted customs superintendent, he asked for invoice and duty of his self-assumed value of airplane which he assumed it worth $150 (but the it was of only $80).
later then he charged more penalty of 5k, i got really mad at this  ! i wrote a letter to them saying it to return the item to seller and after a month i got refund from my seller, i short, if you have bought any big rc product which comes from china, be ready to pay duty and their penalties!

I have ordered a 70cms length RTF Heli from banggood.com. It has reached mumbai customs 15 days back, from that day the status is showing up as below....

"Record item customs information (Inb)
Retention reason : Awaiting presentation to customs commissioner "

Do i have to do any thing from my side ?

Guys Customs is unpredictable especial at mumbai customs? so why to import, when it is avilable in INDIA @rc  bazaar, it's hassle free.

Kumar Dasai I wish it should come out but 90% chance is once it is stuck its stuck. A veteran hobbyist told me at Mumbai they hold so many airplanes Tx, helis, any flying objects Rx that's imported. Quite u

Jigs and all: India is a security senseive country, and any flying object is a serious proposition , unlike US Or UK , INDIAn products at official shops is so expensive that hobbyist are tempted to import online....but it will get stuck for sure!

Dont worry Kumar, 2 weeks sounds just about right for a large parcel.
No input is required from your side, unless specifically reqested by customs

If this all things are Restricted or prohibited...

Then why local hobby shop are selling that same items...

And they are also import same thing which you need to import but i think their parcel never detained like ours.

If the risk from flying OBJECT....then i think they also need to restrictions on Local hobby shop...but they never do like this...so i think flying object is not a serious matter in this case.

Jigs shops are official importers who sell goods on official documents. They also have WPO Approval to import radio freq. Devices.

customs know that all things and they detain our radio b'coz the most corrupt department is CUSTOM that you know i think.

@iwincar: Yes you are right. Especially Mumbai Customs are bloody worst. Before this i have ordered some RTF Helis, those parcels went to Kolkata customs and chennai customs. They have cleared it with in 3 days. Its my bad this time it went to mumbai customs.    . dont know when they will release it. what else we can do other than waiting. Every hour i am checking the status. no update in the status at all. You can't believe it, This parcel has reached india, from banggood within 4 days. But no use of it.

The Assistant Comissioner is releasing random parcels of Hobbiest from Delhi. You might be the lucky one, but this happens very rarely..

My advise is that you do not declare "Hobby Parts" on your parcel, declare something as "Misc. Parts" or "Replacement Parts".

They also told me that they have detained A parcel from Honk Kong which was supposed to go to U.P. which also has some heli or some plane (i dont know exactly). If it belogs to someone who is reading this thread then please contact the customs

yes its true that nowadays the customs have become a lill strict in their releases of certain parcels , i recently got some lipos and electronics for my model , they detained it  and the reason shown was  importation subject to restrictions import- license ,awaiting inspection by customs commissioner , kinda scarey     still haven't received them , wonder whats gonna be the conclusion to my HK shopping story 

Really?  Lipos are restricted?  They fully know these are just toy items.  It's just another corrupt method to make extra cash, no different that the traffic police.
