hi friends last week I got my parcel it from hk just 18$ parcel and custom charge me 327 import duty 

Ram I got a parcel declared value was approx 2500/- and they charged 1200/-

same thing here i declare 100% original value and they charged 45% duty like 3500 INR/-

if you have declared 100% value and if it is more than 5000 INR ($82), then it will surely be detained and you have to pay the duty.

My experience with Ahmedabad F.P.O-

- the parcels which are small (1-2 kg) and have less than $40 GIFT declaration, will most probably escape (only helicopters/multirotors) . planes do get detained even if its an air frame and a they also detain toy airplanes. if you want a helicopter bigger than 250 class, then be ready for the customs mess unless you are familiar with them.

- even after paying a penalty of 5,000 (excluding 42% duty), you have to submit real invoice, PAN card copy etc but still there is possibility that customs DON'T release the parcel.

- all the micro helis ( CP/FPs) pass without any problem. i've got two WLv922s and four WL v911s without any problem.

- last way to release parcel from customs is to wet some dry beaks.
- if declaration value seems fake (happened with my rc plane parcel), the self assume it and charge duty for it.

I ordered this glider (noob glider) RTF from hobbyking 2 days ago and got it shipped with chinapost EMS
I mentioned it as a toy and not hobby parts because it had a toy tx inside.
do you think I will face any big problems with customs?

it weighs about 2200grams.

i have got some rc micro helis passed through Delhi customs also, my parcel actually came from Sweden by banggood.

i had no problem and none of customs duty or any other problem occurred.
i am not sure but Delhi customs are good and perhaps, your toy glider would be passed.
i don't have any rc airplane import experience with delhi customs.

Out of 10 Hobbyking orders for lipos and small parts (motor, ESCs), each order less than $30 worth of items, Customs held it once and demanded payment.  It had four 3S 1300 mAh lipos so they must have thought it was valuable.  I paid Rs 500 customs fee for a package worth Rs 1500.  It went to someone's pocket because I got a plain piece of paper for a receipt.

i sent application to Ahmedabad FPO for return parcel to our seller...

and They said it takes 1 Month...

so any one can give me suggestion on this issue...?

Import experience at Foreign Post Office Jaipur.

I had ordered two turnigy LiPo, one charger, some connectors and battery straps from HobbyKing (Total with postage $ 127). they arrived and I got a letter from the FPO. I went there and showed the letter. I was told to come with my id proof, residence proof and invoice for the goods. Next day I went there at 12 with all these. now the wait game started. I was told a file will be opened for it. the person indicated was busy in various jobs and kept on telling me to wait..finally another gentleman took pity and made the file for me. Now this file was to go to the vault where the parcel was kept, and the parcel was to be brought out and presented to the inspector. The man at the vault said he is busy in getting earlier parcels inspected so I should wait. OK...now after an hour or so he came back and then when I asked him to get my parcel out, he searched and said my file is not there, this was the file which I had personally placed on his table, well we searched around his table and the file was not to be found. finally after looking everywhere in the office it was discovered at the table of the appraiser where the vault incharge had taken some parcels earlier. finally got my parcel, now the inspector was busy with other work...so wait....took one hour for him to get free and come to inspect the parcels...the parcels were opened, contents discussed and inventory made. now the parcel was to be resealed and kept in the vault again...wait for a lady to do the honors of resealing the parcel...now the file went to the appraiser who I must say was a young man and was very efficient one. He discussed the contents and then said that I will have to pay a penalty and duty and he suggested that one should get things from abroad with someone coming back rather than importing. so now the inspector was supposed to prepare and give me the challan for for depositing the penalty in a bank couple of km away from FPO...same thing...wait...finally got the challan at 6:20PM.Total six and half hours spent for a job which could well have been done in an hour or so....

Now I will go to the bank, deposit the penalty (Rs.1500) and then back to FPO for further processing and payment of duty and then finally the release of parcel...

Decided never to opt for this route again......

this is india man, u always learn the hard way.

the worst part is that even after 50yrs of independence we still suffer at the hands of Indians.

i too have gone thru hell for many parcels.

its best to keep patience and look out for friends coming from US.

they told me call me on Monday...when i call Monday and they said again call on Friday ...When i call on Friday they again they said Call on Monday ...

And start the game...The commissioner says your file is ready and it in front of me...so wait for some day...

I think this is the longest thread in this forum... finally the better solution is to settle abroad, don't understand why are they simply harassing the hobby people, even i have faced this twice visiting the customs & see how uneducated people they are, they are still debating with me saying 27Mhz is only allowed in India as per the Indian law... for R/C after which i did not say a single word thinking how dumb these people really are..  will they ever grow up & understand that as per my knowledge 27 Mhz is not used for rc flying... 

In both the cases they were repeatedly asking me questions about each parts that were in the parcel... how disgusting it is my friends abroad receive the same parcel from HK at their door steps no issues from the customs ever... what is the problem with customs here in India?? Its better i pack my bags & fly to UK..

I think they are most Uneducated people...
27mhz,2.4Ghz and 5.8Ghz are free in INDIA...

But they are detain our parcel and they are say that is prohibited...

Do not know why they behave like this...

They said they have Notification about this .. and he find the file to showing the notification but when he find...the other commissioner says that file is not here....

So Finally i think not a any single Rule related with this..

One solution is to create more local hobby shops so you order domestically.  Even this can be problematic when the India post loses parcels as in one case I experienced (supposedly under investigation two months later).  A lot of troubles for a $14 Dynam simulator which is just a toy and not a real TX. But for whatever reason the parcel was not delivered and all the I and the buyer have left is a tracking number.

When you talk about buying from local hobby store even they have to face the same problem that we face actually they are the one who take a big risk... as their order is quite big & not a small parcel i hope you understand..

Actually nothing in this country goes smooth.....   Hobby is activity that is done for pleasure.. but i see there is less pleasure & more pain....in this country

Then education for Customs people might be the key.  Invite the Customs chief of your cities to your flying field and let him see these are mostly cheap foam toys and small motors.  Educate them on the Hobbyking website so they can see the prices themselves.  Why hold back a nation wanting to learn flying, building, experimental designs, with so much to benefit and gain just because someone in Customs wants to practice the old corupt ways? I'm only speaking for the simple individual users who are most affected here and not speaking for the RC businesses who has to pay as part of doing business.

But reading through this forum it seem IMPORTING stuff does not seem like a good option for a NEWBIE... ......

You think custom people need to educate... regards to RC..  They know it already.. inside out of it..... but they are DUMB knowing every thing. No matter how you order as an individual or as a business person like i said nothing goes smooth in this country, better understanding only comes if you have traveled & lived abroad see how their system works......

We're talking about how to improve the service by Customs.  Just saying they are dumb is not gonna help.

Customs Officers have a job to do.
About 25 years ago, we had imported some educational videos from BBC for SBI.
Customs would not release the cassettes without seeing contents.
I flew from Hyd to Mum, and found no one was willing to rent out a VC player to take to Customs Office.
So I had to request the Inspector to come to SBI's Press Conference room, where we had VCPs.
He came, and the first thing he noticed was the name of SBI PRO (Shri Ajit Wadekar).
And when he played the first tape, he saw a lecturer with a chalk at a blackboard.
It took him only a minute to clear the consignment.
So let us tell the Customs what we are importing, and pay the duty if payable.
