Anyone travelled from India to US with a 2.4G transmitter in the checked in luggage?

Faced any issues here or there?

my uncle resident of USA travelled from US to india and gave me a Tx no body asked him any thing....

the Tx was in tower hobbies bag and the box was peeping out and was clearly seen as a Tx....


i suggest you to go through red channel and declare it as a Tx.... and say it is for model airsport.

but what is the reason you taking it to USA

I wanna know about trip from India to US. Even I've not faced any issues taking it from US to India.

I'm here in India for a while, but will be going back to US and wanna take my RC stuff back.

Have not ever carried it to US frm here, so a bit concerned about the customs ordeal..
Anyone with experience, please share it.

Pretty much every trip out of India I make, I have a TX with me.  Put it in checked in baggage, and that's about it.

The only time I was asked about anything of that sort was when I had a RealFlight sim, and they asked about it before check in at Kochi.  I told them what it is, and there it ended.  They did ask it does not look like "toy controller" in the X-ray images, as it had no antenna, instead it had a long wire (USB cable) coming out of it.  I explained what it is, and offered to take it out, which they said was not needed.

Inward to the US also is not a problem.  I have taken a 9C there once, and have had others do it multiple times.  I did remove the battery connection, to prevent the radio from turning on inadvertently, but the battery was kept in the TX battery slot itself.

i had a friend to bring a logo kit from germany to india. in custom it went from i had to pay 200 dollar in custom,, to i had to leave the parcel, to store the parcel ,to pay 50 dollar in bribe but when they found out it was only a air frame and no radio they let it go. they said radios is banned in custom, i had no problems before when i had 2 radios in the bag but looks like they start to be hot on this in the airport custom as well, maybe because a lot of people carry these toy coax helis in there hands 

Was this voluntarily disclosed, or they questioned the contents based on Xray information ?

my relative is flying to India from Boston. He has agreed to bring in an Optic 6 sport 2.4 radio system,(w/o servo) . Is it going to be a problem?  the purchase is legit and thus he will have all the papers (bill, etc  ) . Has anyone got their stuff flown in or flown it in themselves?.. I imported a OS 46 last year and had to pay 2 k at the customs  . Dont want to take any risk this time..
any help will be appreciated.

when u import stuff its 2 out of 10 which will be detained by the customs requesting for more doc's however when flown in the bagage the chances  are less for any problem. ur relative who is handling ur package should knw how to deal with the airport custom if questioned,as long as he's got the bills there shouldnt be a problem. Indian airport customs might be a hassle but as we all know Its easily manageable ( bharat mahan ) .. i myself got rc stuff few times including tx rx but it never was a problem at the any airport. its always safe to keep it in the baggage which u check inn.. good luck

is it advisable to keep the Tx and Rx separate or together? also is it a problem if the radio is inside its box? or should the box be carried separate? Or should it be discarded altogether? and what about Tx batteries?
Also, are there any kind of standard answers that could convince the customs and allow free pass?

third option sell ur radio in india , i hope many wants a good radio at better price , take money with you, nobody will ask , buy a better radio then current or same , also cheap to buy radio in us. you happy we happy

My suggestion would be to open the battery connection inside the transmitter. You should keep the transmitter and receiver in the checking baggage without the box. Secure the transmitter sticks inside the baggage.
Box and anything beyond baggage size attracts customs. It is all luck at the end of the day. These things will only help you not to attract customs.

incase if the officer gets to see the baggage with a tampered box or open transmitter that is when it might be a problem(questions) , its always safe to keep in ur baggage as it is, if being scanned and checked that is when u show the bill, its is not that a big matter to deal with. The last option would be a custom charge where inn the probablity is very low(they will never detain it). keep ur fingers crossed and hope for the best. they will only question for who and what it is and for how much, never lower the price coz even they google ( been thru it once )..
eg: if its an uncle who is handling ur baggage, he can just say that its for his son/bhatija/bhanja/brother for his engg college project with a smile ..

For all that i know is while the baggage's being scanned its the crstals on the reciever/transmitter that attracts, nothing to do with the battery's unless its a lipo

Is there probability of problem in carrying Tx Rx in domestic flight? 

i got a futaba 3pmx in box by chkin luggage my brother got it from us no prob.

It is always safe to put it as Check-in baggage which has least hassle. But ensure that the batteries have been removed (They asked that for my GMRS Radio)..
Carrying that in Cabin should be okay, but the Security would definitely ask few questions. Leaving a battery here would be big trouble!!

But still for sake of knowledge i want to know that, when luggage passes through X-Ray scanner, would they be able to find whether the strange electronic equipment(for them), contains battery or not?

Carry a RC magazine with you. Show them if they raise any questions. They usually will ask to scan it separately. I had to pull out some RC parts to scan separately last time. The security guy got interested and wanted to know more. A 5 min casual talk continued, but I knew they were looking for holes in my responses.
