Hi

I have a relative coming to India from USA so I was thinking of ordering a Radio (Taranis 9XD) over there and asking him to bring it along.
Are there any reported issues with Mumbai airport customs not letting radios through?
What is the safest way to get the radio through customs?

Any help is appreciated.

TIA

Remove all the packaging and box and remove any batteries with it. And bring only the radio, if they ask about it tell them it is for personal use and i have travelled with it many times.
Also out of topic but you should also consider the new taranis qx7 which is almost same, it only has 2 less switches and dials and screen is a little smaller but the design of qx7 is better than x9d and it also feels better in hand. I have the qx7 myself.  It is also cheaper than the x9d, about 5 thousand rs cheaper. Apart from that everything is same.

Hey Tushar,

Thanks for the advice, but I have since ditched the idea of asking my relative to take the risk of being detained at the airport.
Is there any way to procure these transmitters in india without the hassle of the shipment going through customs and not having to pay exhorbitant mark ups on the that Indian sellers usually offer?

I do not think it would be detained. But if you do not want to take risk , You can buy the taranis qx7 and x9d plus from  rchyper.com and rcmumbai.com

Orion

I also ordered taranis x9d plus from USA relatives so I told them to remove the box and get the tx and rx only so what about the battery?? Also would they have to pay custom dutys ? What are the chances they will detain the tx??
Thank you
