3(* N) Mistakes of my RC Life

Hi Friends,

Lets document a list of mistake that we do in our RC life.

I think everyone will find it very useful and may be it will save some time and money of RC Family.

Let me start with very stupid mistake of  myself:

I build this F-22(http://www.rcindia.org/electric-planes/f-22-build-log/) and CG and everything seems prefect.

I was excited to see it flying after so many efforts.

It was hand launched and it flied for 10 ft and suddenly something suck in prop.

My trainer cut the throttle and bird crash landed.

And the after crash investigation it was found that I did not applied any tape on ESC & RX (same way as we don't do it in normal trainer planes)so prop pull all wires with ESC and RX.

And so lesson was : When we build plane like F22 make sure ESC, RX & all wires are taped properly.

Make sure that prop wont be able pull anything except AIR :)

I was also looking for some thread similar to this one. My learning:

1. Always tape the model with packaging tape. It gives more strength for foam planes and is not only for looks what i use to think.

2. Always check your control surfaces before flying since I lost two props just because of this.

Awesome thread :salute:....

a) Always check control serfaces before takeoff....I crashed nose down when my ready40 was going little left and I gave right and it went in a loop to the left (control surfaces not checked)  :banghead:

b) Unitll on a solid cement ground(tht too clean) , always give a handlaunch to your EDF jet, its a vacuume cleaner, can suck anything on the ground. Mine injusted its half broken front landing gear and broke all its teeth(fan blades :giggle:)

Here is one more ...

Never place any wire crossing near to prop circumference.

I placed my Hitech RX BODA antenna near to prop in same F22. Antenna was taped properly but motor mount came off due to shock  and cut the antenna into 2 pieces.

Yesterday one of my fellow flyer was flying AXN Floater-Jet. It took off nicely after hand lunch and took height of around 300 ft. and then wing split into 2 pieces. Main body came straight down on nose due to battery weight .

Luckily there were not too many structural damage to plane or any electrical parts.

The lesson was: check the wing if you are flying plane like AXN Floater or Easy star family.

About a week back i was flying easystar without any extras on it! after a morning flight thought of adding 900mhz fpv ! was flying with Fr sky Accst Rx ! in the evening after  mounting FPV went for flying ,plane went up to height of about 100 ft and than came straight down nose dive couldn't control due to glitch and lock down ,hit the ground with straight nose and at high speed  fuselage broke into 3 pieces but no damage to wings or emphanage !and nose was bulged ! and didn't use fail safe feature in Rx.

Lessons Learnt: 1) Check the Range before flying if equipped with more than one radio system!
                      2)Use fail-safe feature whether its electric or Glow models if rx has that feature!
To increase thrust you need more  money! But to reduce weight you  need nothing!

hi,

this mistake is always a common factor with me although i have tried to overcome it.

this sunday i took off a trainer plane and just after the plane lifted it rolled to the right and hit the ground.

i was surprised and 1st thought was interference, as i was on 35mhz.

after a quick chk and the problem was aileron servo was reverse. i took off without confirming the controls. i wanted to bank left and the plane rolled left.

hence my advise to all. always double chek the the controls before taking off.

Funny but could have been dangerous...

During one of my flying sessions in Hyderabad (Shamirpet), a friend of mine was flying a new Trainer model (high winger). It was a maiden flight. The flight was successful and he made a beautiful landing. Upon landing, he took a sigh of relief, turned his back towards the aircraft and started walking towards the pit. Not realising that the enigne was still running, he accidentally swtiched off his Tx.

The plane started taxing and took off automatically... (the failsafe on throttle was set to 80%) LOL HA HA HA :giggle:

We all started shouting and then he realised that it was his plane in the air flying all by itself. He tried to give inputs through the sticks but no luck... as the tx was off...  :giggle: It was only after 40-45 seconds he realised that the tx was off and then he switched it on. Fortunately he could lock again and brought the aircraft down safely.

Lesson learned...-> NEVER EVER SWITCH OFF your TX when the engine is running / battery is connected to the Rx.

Never switch off the TX before the RX.

Particularly important for electrics!
