Keep Away from RC, if you dont have the following:

1)Money - Continous investment is required - to keep ur motivation up and fix crashes buy new stuff etc.

2)TIME - You dont have this then its useless.

3)SPACE TO FLY - Preferable within 10 to 25 KM max.

4)A car to carry around your RC stuff.

5)Lots of interest.

6)Dont have good luck in your city with CUstoms etc.

I suggest that if you have any one of the difeciency then kindly stay away from RC. It will very soon kill your spirit and make feel that all you invested is a waste of time and money and cause depression too.  :banghead:

Ujjwaana:

1. LHS...
2. Understanding /Enduring wife if you are married. Else secretly R/C flying might become an 'Extramarital affair'.

Rohit Gupta:

1.You should also stay away from the hobby when you are in class 12 preparing seriously for your competitive exams.

I disagree :) Where there is a will there is a way :)

vinay

Your "will" will die away when the problems you face are more than the fun its giving back.

What happened Vinay?Something gone  wrong?I am guessing, something to do with flying space.I am totally happy with my car after owning it for 9 days. They say that cars do break a lot asking for replacements but with care, they do not break or just get a slash 4x4 :giggle: ;D.And since I am a kid, getting a constant flow of money from my dad is hard too :'(.SO,I make sure that I will not need to ask him to spend more :).I don't second "continuous investment".

Need some Prozac? ;) :)(pun intended) :)

But back to the topic,it should be easier for scratch builders right?Just get a radio, some batt(s),charger,ESC,motor, prop, servos and the rest is lot cheaper(I guess). And most of the other components do survive for a long time.

I agree, Iam not married yet, but my mom gives continuous support in this, I spend 1000s of Rs and she wont mind it.

But once I get married, I hope I get the same support.

I remember my Project manager saying to me - "Don't worry, You will keep spending money like this after marriage also"

I was confused and asked, you mean My wife would allow it?

He said - "ya, except that you will be spending on her shopping items rather than your RC items"  :giggle:

I have tons of those Stuff, TONS!!! I am a mini hobby city.

I just created this thread because I lack a few points that I mentioned above. I added the other points so that when new people get into RC they should know that as well, before they decide into the wagon and die later :P

If you're a mini hobby city, you don't have to be worried apart from space right?Make a small plane and fly it in a ground.(I am just giving advice which I would never be able to follow. :giggle:)

Easier said than done!

I just finished assembling 2 of my RC 450 Helicopter and there are still 2 more helicopter waiting to be assembled in the assembly line! a 450 tt pro and the 500 CMT tt. As I said the above factors I said above will hurt in the long run (within a year!).

You name it CORO? Depron? Motors? batteries - different sizes? ESCs? RXs? I have all these 10+ EACH

Multiple chargers, Gyros, etc etc,  I have 11 X 2200 mah 3s batteries just for my Helis! Its no use! I still fell let down today. Though I will pursue this hobby, Being in Bangalore has killed half of my interest.

iamahuman

Well for me,I can take care of expenditure.Time ain't a problem because my battery and car can go for very long without any use.Lipos will make it a lot better. No problem with space. What are roads for? ;D

The car part is a problem. My dad hates to drive in Bangalore these days. After 30 years of happy driving,he is fed up.Interest is not a problem.
And customs is ruled out because I have got Jayanth to give me all I need.

Be Inquisitive

iamahuman

So,you've got 4 new helis plus how many aircraft you had.Why worry? You can be harsh on 1 and keep the rest for a long time to come.

Now,I will talk like a philosopher. Our civilization is obsessed with new stuff.WE buy new stuff and throw out the rest without having given our old stuff a second thought.I guess it is time to conserve and recycle. If mankind becomes more efficient,we can go a long way.

Gandhar,
Wait for summer vacations.. I used to drive my car AT LEAST twice a day, everyday, even though the battery needed a 3 hour charge!

About the studies thing.. Now that I'm a little interested in scratch building, I only do my research and cutting/pasting in weekends..

As for parents, neither of them really like my hobby.. They think its too kiddish.. They want me to pursue a hobby like photography... Really don't want to go do that!

Besides RC, i love cycling and GAMING! Parents don't mind either of them.. Don't know why they have a problem with RC..  :headscratch:   :banghead:

When the summer holidays come,I will be very happy.

I consider RC as investment and prefer to devote % of my salary to it. Remember every investment has risks involved, you gain knowledge, satisfaction and sometimes (very rarely) monetary gains too by selling your old stuff you dont need anymore at more or same price that you bought for, Losses everyone know about it.

A poor investment like everyone does, by going after cheap china parts, result in short term gain but long term loss. Similarly a good investment result in short term loss but long term gain.

PS.: Vinay, You might want to edit the 6th point in your first post. Although I and everyone understood the meaning but it sounds like...

Keep Away from RC, if you dont have "Bad luck in your city with CUstoms etc". - should be Good Luck.. no? :)

iamahuman

Oh,I just missed the 'bad luck' one.you've got a hawk's eyes.

Keep Away from RC, if you dont have the following:

Bull-crap :giggle:

All it takes is about 3 months of concentrated effort to get to an intermediate level in terms of technical knowledge and flying skills.  After that, all you need is a mind to be of help to others. Just go with newcomers (or even intermediate level flyers) to help them train/setup/repair etc.  You will end up flying more variety of models than you will ever own, you learn so much more, you will enjoy this hobby to the fullest.  You will end up getting free stuff, no need to spend on fuel, no need to buy new models and so on...

The only thing that matters is TIME, even that can be "at your own pace".  Pack a bit of people skills, some patience, and say upfront that "even the best of the best crash from time to time" ;)
