"Here's an idea.
Can you convene an RC India convention, where we can actually meet the guys we exchange banter and barbs with? (Annually?)
Preferably at a central place (like Indore?)"
quote from K.K.Iyer at 05:45:35 PM on 10/03/2014

I just might want to hijack this idea and shift the venue to Guwahati. Let me get the logistics correct first. After all, Assam has been host to the biggest ever Aeromodelling camp and the first ever Flying Carnival - why not make it 3 in a row? I know I can count on Gusty/ Sandy/ Saikat/ Pravesh/ our friends from Mizoram et al (with their collective North eastern experiences) and I think we can make this happen. Stay tuned.

Cheers!

Please document the timestamp of start of any new build with newspaper references (take pics of parts before starting the build with a current newspaper in the pic, and take multiple pics). I will post rules as soon as I get some free time.

End of April.  That should be enough time for everyone.

Also thinking of changing the rules so that scratch builders will get 5x chances, and both heli and car builders will get 3x if they start from a kit.

There will be two winners, both will receive same prizes.

sanjayrai55

What is the difference between a kit build (say from a balsa kit) or an ARF in the context of this competition?

Would a scratch build be defined as including design?

anwar

ARF would get only 1x chances. Kit builds would get 5x chances.  I am thinking of increasing the chances based on complexity/effort of the build.

Scratch and kit builds will both get around 5x chances, based on effort and originality (if the design is particularly challenging, why not 10x !).

And we will have the draw in mid-may.

Anwar Bhai, Happy Birth day.
The challenge of building up the forum for the Hobby in itself is born out of the vision and tenacity of ONE individual, you, egged-on by so many others who took turns in nurturing it by their regular contributions and visits/revisits to the forum. Their contributions to the growth is understandable. The reminiscences/sentiments expressed by you and tone/feelings of your acknowledgements are greatly appreciated.
At the same time, the magical figure of 10000 +, a tribute to your vision made me sit up and review the members' list.  :headscratch:What the list showed is a different story : I noted that a great, great majority of those who joined the Forum never bothered to participate in ANY discussion, nor bothered to re-visit any of the topics, let alone start a new one :o. I wonder why did they join this Forum in the first place. The Forum pulled on, albeit at different paces by the some / same members who made this the sanctum sanctorum, and a lively one at that  :salute:!! Some ids vanished, some left voluntarily, some died a natural death; some do not even remember that they had this RC fever once upon a time and joined it as a knee-jerk reaction, on the spur of the moment.
So, I just wonder - is there any way to poke these guys/gals in to activity from the Admin side? Of course with the help and co-operation of the active / senior (not by virtue of Date of Joining) members. Any suggestions from the respected members?
It would be wonderful if this could be achieved as a part of  a larger canvas of development of the hobby. This in turn, would widen the active base, gets more exposure, improves the opportunities of getting material and better services to the hobby in general.
Just my two cents, after seeing the numbers 0,1 or 2 postings against the names of the members list of 202 pages... Hope you guys don't laugh at my suggestion. :headscratch:

Anwar Bhai,

OMG
you are absolutely right about it doc. i did some analysis, these are as follows

1. there are only 3200 members who have posted some thing out of 10000+

2. Posters with double digit amount to only 1225

3. posters more than 50 posts amount to only 440

4. Oldest (as per date of joining) zero poster is 'new born choosa'

What is intriguing is the list of zero posters (Believe me i went through all of'em). this list includes some veterans of the hobby who come here and be a mute spectator, probably they feel it is below them or from fear of some kind of 'ticking off' they done post. these names include

Fulli buxi from Nagpur

Some well known people from Flying Giants

Model Boat Mayhem

some more such names.

So much for statistics

PS
Then there are Admin, anwarpp who are no one but our admin himself, who are single posters :giggle:

PPS
dont go by the single posters most of'em are here and are reading them, gaining knowledge. JUST a sundry info, top three posters are anwar, VC & rcpilotacro

This topic has been beaten to death ! The whole question of prodding people back into action on the forum sounded like a bright idea to me multiple times earlier.

But soon I realized that knowledge in this hobby has sort of saturated. I say sort of, because if you watched the past one or two years of activity, it has tilted heavily towards multirotors, and there is lots of activity about them.  I guess part of the appeal is that they provide the best vehicle these days for someone to enter RC, at limited cost, fairly low risk of failures/crashes, no need for a large field etc.

And the trend is truly reflected as "activity" on the forum.  The traditional builds and worrying about airfoil shapes and sizes of tail stabilizer versus wing span etc etc are discussed a lot less. Not that people are not doing and enjoying that, but there is a trend towards instant gratification, or life may have just gotten too hectic overall !

So these days, I feel like sitting back and watching, instead of coxing people into going back to the true beauty of aeromodelling. I do request people to post something about what they are doing, even if an occasional picture from the field. Just keeps life interesting for all of us who spend part of their busy days here, hoping there will be something new every time we stop by !
