browsing through some of my older posts, I came across a post from a very familiar forum member Augustinev, but was surprised to see the name "rcpilotacro" with location being mentioned Outside India

Now this brought about 2 questions -
1) What are the pros and cons of changing one's identity on the forum like whether this should be considered ethical or not etc?
2) How the hell one does it? I did not see any option in my account/profile edit options

Hello Pankaj sir... There is an option to change the profile information on the top bar "Quick Links", However even I was not able to find anything using which one can change the display name.. It might be the case that this was done on request to admin..

If its not in the settings then Admins can anytime change it in the database if you ask them, It happens all the time, in different forums, altho most of them do it only when you have genuine reasons.

And I dont see whats Unethical about changing login details, its just nickname, and its fine.

As for the location,  only rcpilotacro can answer about that.

PankajC

@sidewinder,
I disagree on "its just a nickname". The entire identity on a forum is maintained by the nickname. Consider the fact that we are interchanging with some member who we only know by a handle - suddenly you find the old handle is not there and I don't have the knowledge about this change - personally I find this confusing.

While I agree to the fact that one has the right to change his/her name/nickname, but even in real life a name change is a big even and that is usually associated with a public announcement

I wonder if it makes sense to have a "aka" kind of a tab on profile view

Exactly this is not real but a virtual world, You can change things easily unlike in the real world where you have to follow formalities and whatever. Here you have less obligations other than informing just the members of the forum.

And i myself  didnt use my real name bcoz its risky and can be misused altho i highly doubt it would happen here.But Im staff on another international non rc forum and i have seen so many hate/racist spams and hate blogs with all personal details/pics being put up online and morphed to disgusting extents, just bcoz the victim trusted members (at some point of time but things turned sour) and shared his FB acct which usually has more details than the government has now a days!

Yeah not having knowledge about the change is confusing, I agree. Something can be done for it as u mentioned "AKA" or the person should inform it himself. But the question about ethics arises only when profile details are being falsified.

And moreover there is no way we can even believe that the details already mentioned on profiles are 100% right. We dont have any verification as such on online forums or here. Its more about trust we develop overtime.

Change of Name, Location, All videos taken out, no more FB profile, all pics from FB gone, only place left is here, ??? point to ponder. !!! for the post and position could be larger , much larger reason. no ?

while i agree change is irksome, i dont subscribe to, and like it either !!!

@rcpilotacro

Somehow I had gotten used to typing Augustinev, so will take some time for the new handle to settle in.

The question that I had has nothing to do with you changing your name per se. It is more to do with the fact that we all get familiar to a particular "name".
So then the question boils down to "how we communicate this change" or "how to keep track of the aliases". This is assuming that we do not have any objection to changing name in the first place.

Forum names are one's identity on the forum, and no one would want to change them, except for real/valid reasons.  When SUCH reasons are communicated to the admins, we entertain and facilitate such changes.  Again, we entertain them on a need basis, we certainly do not encourage them.

As to why specific people requested changes, it is their personal circumstances, and WE are NOT the best people to judge THEIR situations.

We have to unite and to prove ourself to make indigenous products as well as marketing / Canvasing them. I'm sure we must achieve success if we try unitedly.

I believe, your profile picture (if it is not your actual photograph) or Avatar should be a snapshot of who or what you REALLY are. Keeping that in mind, I've created my new avatar. Since it is not clearly visible on the posts, here it is in detail. Hope you all approve, it says a lot about me.............. :giggle:
