i want to disassociate my login and email id with rcindia.com.

i've tried searching about it but couldn't find anything relevant. is mods-ban-me, the standard procedure or there's some option hidden deep inside my profile settings?

anwar

You can just quit posting.  We will not delete accounts that have participated in existing threads, as that would cause the continuity of discussions to be lost.

that's really sad.

i am like karthik (of karthik calling karthik fame). as long as my other half knows that the login to rcindia works, he'd get up in the night and start posting. i can't even change the password or email address, because if i know then he knows!

i tried, but the end was nearly as disastrous as Ed Norton's (in Fight Club).

Ok I am not a movie buff, but all I can say is my reply was good for multiple posts above, you know what I meant.

Sorry to butt into this tear jerking melodrama, however, why do you want to quit?

Read his earlier posts(Dremel), gandhar deleted some of his excessive quotes, he felt the quotes were relevant, so he felt aggrieved, anwar sided with gandhar, kinda said, my way or the highway(not in so many words),
my point is I think facility should exist, if someone wants to call it quits, to change his name and rest of the info in any thread as Guest or disassociated member or something like that, so that what he posted remains for clarity of the thread , who? Really doesn't matter, afterall there are people who can't take constructive criticism well,
Anwar bhai, point to ponder

Now that my name pops up here, I'd like to know if any of my actions were wrong... :headscratch:

The way in which I edited the post didn't break the continuity of the conversation. ( Atleast I think so)

:hatsoff:...some time back I also faced the same problem Karthik, what you can do is so simple that even your half Karthik will not be knowing. open a word Doc.  type a long password without thinking like this

lsakjfldskjbf jsajbksbkjs

change password of your account with this by copy pasting it....once changed just close the word doc. without saving it..................and its GONE......forever.  :hatsoff: :hatsoff:

no, that happened a long time back. i don't sulk for that long. besides that, giving and receiving constructive feedback is part of my regular job (the desk job). so, i am kind of immune to it.

it's something that i 'noticed' yesterday.

raiyus13

I can't get it, why don't you change your email password also? (im assuming that ,he knows your email password)

anwar

We can always ban people ;D  (Not sure why even saying that gives me some kind of sadistic high :giggle: ).

But how will you be absolutely sure that you will not create another email/account here ?

i Come back to what i said earlier, even Orkut and FB allows you to close account, ( I guess) there should be an option to leave RCI, for continuity, it can be shown as disassociated member, (pun intended), pun, no pun, option should exist, for respecting ones option, should be able to join and leave at will.

We cannot compare a forum like this to Facebook or Orkut.  The matters of discussion there are different, and there are really no long lasting bits of information.  We do not want to open the doors to people coming and saying whatever they want, then saying "I quit".  "You reap what you sow"... sayeth Idi Amin the 9th century saint.

However, we can always set their password to a random value, and change their email address at the same time, which would effectively cause accounts to be inaccessible (except with admin/mod assistance).

Now you are crossing the line!

My decision is not based upon my actions here but it's because of you Anwar, that I have a not-so-good feeling to be associated with this site. I very well could've stopped coming here but I just don't like my name/Id/email to be seen here.

Loosing thread continuity is an absurd logic. If I am able to keep my cool then I'll explain you why, in the end.

Here's what prompted me to create this delete-me thread:

I happened to saw a couple of intriguing posts here and I wanted to share my thoughts. I am not a plain motor-batteries-remote guy. I prefer to add programming to things - it's like a giving a machine it's own brain to compliment the remote operations. So, technically there isn't anything for me on this site.

I created my account in July 2011 and posted a comment. I immediately got an email saying that I got busted, as my IP didn't match with my said location. I had put "outside India" while I was physically in India. No probs. I tried to log back to rectify the issue but my Id wasn't recognized. For the next two days my login didn't work and I realized that my Id was banned.

This pi-ssed me off. I live in US and I travel to India often. Now why I wasn't allowed to choose my actual location? This guy who keeps sniffing IP addresses, thinks that he is some sort of a genius to nab me. Anyways, I created a new Id with India as my location. Now "this guy" who happens to run this forum doesn't know that most of the security conscious firms do not allow internet access in office. I just happened to work in one such office in the US. The only way I access net from office is by connecting to my India office through VPN. So, Mr Forum runner please find out what happens to an IP address when one connects through VPN (BTW, VPN is not some kind electric motor).

I wasn't happy with all this, so I didn't participate in those threads that really made me join this forum in the first place.

But the moment of enlightenment didn't come until 6th Sep when I stumbled upon a post, where a user mentioned similar issue while registration. This user is very happy now because he is a reseller and he just wanted to gain entry to this site, on any conditioning. This post, along with another by Anwar stating that rcindia is one of the elite sites to not have user registrations moderated - made me think twice about re-logging into this forum. Sniffing IPs of new users is called moderated registration.

I don't praise people generally, but I must praise you Anwar for accepting publicly that you consider yourself to be another Idi Amin. Otherwise, why would anyone's tag be defaulted to 'plane lover'? Or why would there be a plane's favicon in a multi platform forum (picture of a remote controller would've looked better as it's common to all the platforms)?

On a side note (not related to my woes): Anwar, please keep in mind that you may have to remove some stuff permanently if something illegal gets posted here. It's required by the cyber law. But don't worry, you have plenty of time to hone your skills as Indian cyber law will take another 5 thousand years to come in full force.

Folks other than the moderator and 2nd in command: rcindia is not facebook or twitter. If it indeed runs on XHTML and CSS as advertised, then it has to catch-up on 10 years of advancement in CMS.

Anwar your post was really the last nail in the coffin that made me write this unnecessarily lengthy post:

and it was your actions that made me to think of running away from this forum.

You may treat this post as inflammatory, defamatory, baseless or senseless, but it was necessary as other folks were painstakingly making various assumptions. I wanted to save their time.

Please feel free to delete this post/thread/me... the discretion is all yours as it's in reality - "anwarsrcindia.org"

Sorry, I couldn't write about the continuity of threads. I can't write anything sensible now. Next time.

Well, this is a privately owned forum. The owner,(Anwar) has the right to do anything he wants as long as it isn't illegal.

And on the issue of checking your IP, its done by many places. We've had our moments with trolls. I remember an incident from another forum. A troll came back to start again. His new account was banned immediately. Guess what nailed him....? His IP address.

I will say 2 things... then go back to being Idi Amin :giggle:

1.  I had previous lives where setting up VPNs involving fortune 1000 companies was one of the tasks I performed.  I am sure I still don't know what a VPN is, but I do have 4 patches in the linux kernel ;)

2.  The latest member to join the forum shows up as member 3783, but the user id is 4005.  That means 220+ accounts were deleted so far.  Since a few of the people who join here are not well intentioned or mannered (and since they are not all from my native village and all of them have no clue what a VPN is), the only way we can sort out people are by looking at what they say about themselves.  If they say they are from Uganda and their IP address is listed under Macau, we have a problem.  And that rule seems to have worked out well so far. Since I know nothing about security... yet it is well known that there are companies in developing countries who work in "improving your Google ranking for a fee", we have to take these steps.  The easiest way to identify these people are by the fact that they lie about their location, and all they care about is posting links to some site they took money from.  People who have been here for a few months have seen these spammers, and due to the diligent nature of the moderator TEAM, they do not last more than a few hours typically.

Finally, there is an email address on the bottom left of any page here, to address your issues with registration (or anything else).

Any RULES I have set are to preserve the sanity of the forum.

Being Idi Amin, I am immune to criticism

PS: On all the plane lover and radio image being this and that, here is some fun late night reading :  http://www.rcindia.org/rc-india-forum/what-type-of-lover-are-you/ . Currently we have no option for users to change that preference themselves (if they chose nothing or chose wrong during registration), but that is only because I decided to feed my family instead of being Idi Amin full time.  I will come around and write some code to do it one of these days.
