Just log into every thread and post inane things like:

"Good work."

"well done"

"Nice plane"

Or even better -

:hatsoff:

:salute:

You don't need any knowledge/experience to be a 'Forum Hero' here and I am a Prime Example.  :giggle: An idiot like me has a Rep of 36, while a genius like Ashta Sir scores 8. What a JOKE!!!

Oh yes, it also helps if you spout some unintelligible mumbo jumbo and cite your personal tragedies in public - we really buy those kind of things. Do it repeatedly - Don't worry, Moderators / Administrators won't do a thing.

All is forgiven here. All the best guys.

News back down from earth ;D

Ever wonder why it is "Forum Hero" and not "RC Hero" ?

The real way to look at reputation is to open the person's profile, and select "View Reputation" from the menu on the left.  That is real feedback, and can be tied to a particular post that is worthy of reputation.

Anyone wants to increase reputation of others who they think is worth more reputation ?  Just click on the light blue "heart" ("Add Reputation") against the user's information on any post, and leave positive reputation.  The amount the reputation increases is dependent on the reputation of the giver !

I declare the "2012 Reputation Games" open ! ;)

Idi Amin you are such a horror! You just pulled the rug from right under my feet. I hate you at times. :giggle:

This post was meant for OTHER realisations....................... :banghead:

Well then, why not institute a side by side RC Hero Rep? Calculate / Arrive at it from a vote, you the Admin should get a higher weightage in your votes. I mean, your choice is final. I propose this..........

I am beginning to enjoy my own allegedly "sugar coated" / "irony painted" way of expressing "unpleasant" stuff :giggle:  And I am well aware of what you meant...

My reply is very valid still ! I hope people got a little bit better understanding of how the reputation thing is "supposed to" work.

I don't make all the right decisions all the time... but as of now, I have tons of reputation, so anyone I give reputation to should get more points automatically.  If the audience wants to point out the true heros/gurus of this forum using the existing half-baked reputation system, I would urge them to do so.  Please do put valid comments on why you made the reputation.

I wonder Why the heart is light blue? may the reason you dont feel like touching it.  :giggle:

I personally would have preferred it to be red. May be then I would have touched many in the cyber space when they had touched mine for real.  ;D

I know gusty may be having strong objections to my suggestion of changing the colour of heart from light blue to Red, since his is still light blue, you know why  ;)

Jokes apart, newcomers will know who to contact for help. What I mean to say is that, some newcomer contacts me for Hovercraft help citing complicated Physics Theorems and I am stumped. I'm an idiot and just build them from my heart. I've never paid any attention to complicated theory, sorry.

Another member walks through this forum spouting "It's all too easy", "Have a happy RC", "Have some nice crafts" etc. That is pure drivel.

I've had enough of this tomfoolery. Tolerated it for the last 30 months. If this forum is to progress beyond the numbers game, please pay heed.

PURE Heroes get NO recognition here. They are are not even contacted by PM or in Public. They are ones who have a wealth of Information and would love to share their experiences - there is so much to learn from them. For FREE! Yet, no one wants to learn from them.

Do we REALLY want things to change?

I have a suggestion:

Based on our posts and interactions, the community / Mods / Admin will institute a rank on various categories.

For example:

Ashta Sir can be Champion Quad / Tricopter builds
Saikat can be adjudged Champion Balsa Free Flight Builder
Rcpilotacro Champion Aerodynamics Practical / RC Trainer
Sundaram Champion Micro RC
Roopesh Master Scratchbuilder Boats
Izmile Champion SPADS
Sujju Champion Helis

(The above citing are my Personal Preferences)

And so and so forth. These ranks Champion, Lieutenant, Learner, Novice will be posted against their names in every post. (of course you could arrive at other ranks / designations).

At a glance, everyone will know what our strengths are. I agree it will be difficult to classify EVERYBODY. However, it will depend on the Administrative team to classify the prominent members in their respective slots.

Look at the ridiculous truth, I fly Balsa Gliders and High Wing Trainers and my Rep is higher than kids half my age who could run rings around me when it comes to RC Flying. Mind you, this forum is not only about Hovercrafts or Boats, it is www.rcindia.org.

Come on Admin Team, it's time for a change.........................

Any forum activity should be voluntary.  We are not in the business of forcing people to respond, by labeling them as authorities.  If they have the time, they will respond to questions posted, that they feel they have good input on.

What I would like to see is members correcting others, regardless of any hierarchy (established or otherwise) here. When that happens, all this labeling becomes a moot point.

+1, Anwar Bhai, questioning things if you don't understand, or if the 'Gyan' is questionable, adds real value to the post and forum, and leaves a wealth of knowledge, even after you go, behind for posterity

While i am with VC to revamp this reputation power thing, i would rather prefer we have no hierarchy at all. My reasons are:-

(a) This hierarchy and feudalism, nobles , clerics were designed to keep common man under check, intimidate and rule over him, we stuck to it

(b) Cyberspace should have no hierarchy at all, while it is more convenient for the newbie to know who has responded to his query and is the answer worth looking at by looking at his hierarchy, this concern disappears after a couple of days that he spends time here.

(d)  Indicating some one administrator/moderator too is i guess unnecessary, it is less intimidating for a newbie (Afterall newbies constitute max number in our forum)

(e) i think we all are champions in our own field and our own field of expertise is in some way relates to RC, if not, it goes in to the chatter zone !

Bottom line, been watching this reputation thing, i don't know it isn't working the way it is supposed to be, rating an answer and thereby increasing rating too is i don't think will work, what one person joins with (already being an expert in the RC field) and therefore he should straight away jump to a Champion, this too doesn't sound plausible and correct. Looking at it any which way, this loose hierarchical structure which has been a bane to the society, at least need not be practiced here.

i refer back to the quote of Anwar Bhai's quote, what he has not added is "question anyone...including me" it becomes easy for anyone to question anyone when that intimidating stars or hero or whatever is missing.

Now that is just me! You can stone me for it :giggle:

(VC thanks for adding me in that list, i truly feel i am nowhere in that league, miles to go for me and time is running out, when will i participate in Joe Nall or Top Gun ?)

Regarding post#1, I totally agree. 'Meaningless' "postings" just boost one's post count but don't speak very well about the poster. It's time someone spoke out against this. I'm glad you had the courage to do so, VC.

At the track, a few of us pitched an idea based on Team BHP as a model where new members would have to write an essay to prove their willingness to join and ban people from posting things like "Good work", "Good job", "Nice" et cetera. That should get rid of most of the unnecessary stuff and make the forum more readable.

IF Anwar agrees to this, I'll be the first one to back him.

I'm completely in favor of assigning sections to members and effectively making them heads in those fields.

Thanks for complimenting me on my 'courage'. I would rather term it as intolerance stemming from approaching old age.

I am not getting into a debate over hierarchy and vox populi and / or the zeitgeist prevailing on this forum.

I dont think the visible reputation "reputation power" matters here.. when one goes through the forum for a couple of days, he will easily get the heroes he wants..
no offence offended....
i never see the reputation power of people, but in general i know "who holds what knowledge", and "whom to contact for what purpose".

VC sir, i had been through the thread since it started, and now i would be afraid to appretiate people  :giggle: :giggle:
I can take off and fly well. Its landing which sucks :banghead::banghead:

VC

Abhay my friend, you've solved the dilemma yourself.

In general we all know "who holds what knowledge" and does what for what purpose. Appreciation HAS to be shown. When someone posts to show genuine appreciation vis a vis someone posting for the numbers game - the difference is chalk and cheese. It shows.
