Would you even take off on joy ride ? I mean it should be dirt cheap then!! Even Para sailing in Panchghani etc would be costlier!!
Anywhere to get Microlight joy ride ?
At that rate the next time I visit Pune, I booking an entire Sunday for gliding. Hope they do not hike up the rates before I land (in Pune)
hi,
guys kindly spread the word of gliding center, located just 10 kms from the pune station.
No where in the world can u fly at cost of Rs.187/- . this center is the only one alive in india.
Also we have paragliding and aeromodelling on weekends.
a place to visit if you plan to come to pune do not miss it.
regds
How do they launch - winch / jeep tow / or aerotow ?
winch
and how long do they glide?
Joy rides happen on Sundays. You may have to come early in the morning and register. I guess the duration would depend upon the number of people in the queue.
Regards,
Mohan
I would probably take a train to pune and back to bangalore if it is that cheap... gotta try once :)
Any contact numbers??
020 26992048
020 2699 1012
duration of one flight would probably be one circuit in the traffic pattern
say about 3 - 4 mins . (just guessing here)
my last gliding experience was Behala flying club in mid 80's

Thats nice to hear.. I have been to the centre some years back and it was a great experience. infact 2 of my friends are students (gliders) of the centre.
Rs. 187/- is stable price for many years, and is low cause its only the cost of the jeep (deisel) on which the winch is pulled, the gliders are powerless. it costs me Rs.400/- for travel n food!
ur joyride times can depend on lot of factors as on sundays theres lot of crowd (atleast used to be), thermals, the instructors personal judgement, ur ability to not to throw up!!
BTW, Mr. Mohan are u also associated with the centre? I would like to know about ur course is it still conducted during the weekdays or is there a weekend option also??
When you drive out to Delhi on NH1, near Sonipat, there is a flying academy. I am sure they have microlights for flying ( visible on their banner/hording).
Never been there :( as always running short of time when passing by, but always want to visit it. Does any body have any expereince of this place?
so.. again.. what is the flight duration??
no it depends answers plz :)

Friends, Romans and Countrymen...I have nothing to do with the centre...I just volunteered to give out information...I would rather stay put at the ground and fly or crash :banghead: (which happens more often than not)...

Does the Behala Flying Club still offer gliding for enthusiasts?

Nope - the club and its grounds are defunct last time I visited 3 yrs ago - typical Govt apathy
good place for flying RC though.
hey, is the gliding center still open. ??? heard it has been taken over by some army heli squadron :headscratch:
i was there last sunday and the only heli there was mine
so are the joyrides still on!!
nice... just one thing. are there any restrictions on weight or height? i am kind of big and heavy :P
if ok, ill definitely make it there. and ive got tons of friends who'd try it out along with me.
cheers
hi,
a panoramic view of the hadapsar gliding center, pune
Not only GCP has glider joyrides, it has paragliding joyrides as well as training. Interested can contact Mr. Mangesh Dighe 9689931771 who is the instructor for the same (Although it seems he is not connected with the GCP). As of now the cost of joyride is Rs 1800/- and training (3 days) 8900/-. There are certain age and weight considerations for the joyrides and training. For joyrides one has to take the appointment with the instructor atleast a day in advance.

There are restrictions in the sense that there is upper limit on AUW. If one is too big, correspondily, a low weight pilot should be available. In that case one has to wait even if his/her name is well ahead in the queue.
