yes there is a IAMA... Indian Academy Of Model aeronautics. i branch of the Bombay Society of Model engineers. Estd in mid 1980s.

after the security spat with the mahaklaxmi racecource officials. IAMA is issuing a RFid cards to the members which is produced only after the police clearance of the member by the local police station...

Sushil anand on the forum will possibly be able to tell us more about this i think.

i am a member with the club for a year now.
they even cover third party insurance from long time.

they do not make publicity for only one reason to keep it secure. if one wants to be a member of the club they have to be recommended.

as in case of AMAI any one can be a member by paying their fees, here one has to have a recommendation from a trusted member and a police clearance to get a valid membershipand a RFID card.

lol. We are not creative at all ! I believe all permutations of AMA exist in India
AMA-I and I-AMA , AMAI etc etc

We are just stuck on to AMA.

this is not AERO MODELLERS ASSOCIATION -AMA as in all cases.

it is INDIAN ACADEMY OF MODEL AERONAUTICS - a special case  :giggle:
more over this was founded more than 20 yrs before even AMAI started to think about establishing a organisation.

Buddy, I was referring to AMA (Academy of Model Aeronautics) in USA and not AMAI. That was founded 75 years back, that is what I was pointing to.

Why the secrecy when the aim of these associations is to further the cause of modelling ,

And why no openness and  transparency in their activities ,is there a inside story ?

Also is it registered with the govt or any other govt body for recognition .?
Also what are the activities it carries on for the aeromodelers.?
Is there a federation of associations ?

Hello rcvish ,
Can I have a copy of the third party insurance ,to see if it really exists or do you just take the word of the person you pay for it ?

hello prad
cause for the secrecy is that they do not want any tom dick and harry as their member. only people with a good reputation are taken. and what transparency  are you talking about????

ARE YOU A MEMBER OF ANY ORGANISATION. ?? looks like you have a lot of questions.

they have a tie up with Maharashtra govt/ police . that any member with the membership is not troubled like the  recent case in the states. RFID cards are issued to every member.( see pics)
http://news.yahoo.com/could-model-airplanes-become-terrorist-weapon-214956090.html

the main aim is to keep the members out of trouble and give a legalised permission to fly at mahalaxmi race cource (currently a high security area)

yes we can fly at belgaum using this... got it cleared from local authorities. and we have a formed group of IAMA belgaum wing with all the belgaum authorities known..!!

flying at mahalakshmi was/is only restricted for member of IAMA.... if you have a doubt try taking your plane on the field without one..!!
