Title: Re: RC in Kerala
Post by: anwar on June 20, 2010, 10:20:08 PM
That is OK, people who travel get introduced to stuff easier (although the online/connected world of today makes it much of a moot point). Resources is another issue, in this hobby.
With a platform like RC India, I can't see why 2 or 3 people in places like Kochi can meet and fly at the same place every week, and start doing a bit of evangelism (especially in schools/colleges). When people realize there is routine flying at any place, they will join in, and the numbers will grow to become a good size club.
It is amazing what distances people travel just to see RC stuff. Once we had a few people travel from Wayanad to Kottayam, just to see this in action. People just don't know where flying happens routinely.
So far in Kerala, I know Irinjalakkuda is the only place where that happens routinely, and that too because of the lone enthusiast, Santhosh bhai !

You know Anwar bhai i think I am the only one at alleppey aware of RC.... I have heard people talking at my back while i was flying that " Is he mad, at this age acting like kids" such stuffs,, its really discouraging.... but now i am used to it....

true anwar, but that too with the support from our crew members(kannan, nazar, shaji ...............:)
Title: Re: RC in Kerala
Post by: anwar on June 20, 2010, 10:36:52 PM
Yes, you have a great group of support people, who also show up again and again to the field, even though they have not started in this. Kannan helps build and launch stuff, but others are pure spectators.
@Sreedhar - This is a common reaction, I also used to get it. Now I talk about some of the amazing people (really really influential people here in Qatar) that I have met through this hobby, and people see the value :)
I really don't expect them to understand the passion/fun aspects of it, at least they realize the social value of it! Most people tend to agree that it is a more constructive outlet (and hence positive energy), as compared to many other common alternatives :giggle:

Anwar sir, there was a flying ground behind my home in Kochi but now, a residential complex in progress :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: . I had heard of people flying at Maharaja's college ground earlier, I went there two three Sunday mornings and didn't find any. I welcomes all at Kochi to meet and build a RC Flying club {:)} {:)}.

Did not know about Maharaja's except possibly for the NCC folks. It is in the middle of the city, not sure it would be a good choice.
Will try to catch up when I am back home :)

I agree with that.....and I don't have much courage to fly at there, in the middle of the city :giggle: :giggle: :giggle: will look for a better place

Title: Re: RC in Kerala
Post by: Sreedhar on June 22, 2010, 07:57:03 AM
now it might have become infopark or any huge commercial building... Open space at kakkanad.. now very difficult to find...
Title: Re: RC in Kerala
Post by: bmanoj2 on June 22, 2010, 08:08:31 AM
hahahaha true, But the area I refered is approx 5 to 8 km beyond kakkanadu. I am not sure if this is the famous Sea prot airport road ?
Title: Re: RC in Kerala
Post by: anwar on June 22, 2010, 08:40:31 AM
There were somewhat open spaces on the seaport-airport road, as of a few months ago. But the other road that goes near Veegaland and the one that goes into InfoPark and beyond are both built up on both sides.
The simplest option is the local school grounds, if you can get the school authorities to let you use them.

Hahahahahahaha.... ;D Thank you for the frank response, {:)} I was really wondering how you fly it at kottayam. When we fly it here in Dubai it looks as if you are watching a table tennis game.(Your head moves left and right to follow the plane). It’s quiet fast for its size. I will reach kottayam on the 1st of August, and would like to meet you. I want bring a 3d plane to kottayam, do you think we can find a safe place to fly?. My neighbor who owns a shop at kalarikkal bazaar told me that you fly at CMS College and there was an article about you in news paper. I tried to reach you but didn’t get time as it was a short trip.

Hello guys, Nice to see that the flying hobby is flourishing in Kerala, Why don't you guys come to Goa sometimes and expand this hobby in the minds of some Goans who are so willing to get into the RC hobby but are unaware that this also happens in India!! Like a RC rally or something!
There are some Goan guys in this forum who would be of some help including me, I will come down in December though! No harms, just felt that we needed to expand the RC hobby throughout India..

Had fun flying various planes and helis belonging to Mr Prakkat in front of a school with the students watching. Some teachers came in with questions about the models, and how they work, along with students from senior classes. There were couple of students who wanted to get into RC (they see aeronautical engineering in their future!), so they have been provided with the address of the forum ;)
Myself, Prakkat, Santhosh, Raptor (Sunny) and Sreedhar were present. Raptor had made a nice 3D foamy, but the battery he had on it was huge. We could not test fly it with a smaller battery either, as there was no proper connectors soldered on to the ESC.
Planning to do another flying session soon, possibly at Irinjalakuda. I did not take any pictures, hopefully others will post some.
And next time, there will be NO testing/tuning of stuff till 3am the night before (while others were singing on the Karaoke machine and having a good time ;) )

Looks like rain chances scared the others, but it drizzled for less than 5 minutes, and it was a great day otherwise with no winds and not hot at all ! Was hoping to see SunilJoseph, but it was only me, Prakkat, Santhosh and my brother Jamal. OF course Santhosh's usual ground support folks were there.
The best part for me was being able to do some 3D heli flying on a 50 size bird, Santhosh's Trex600E. Almost no one in the audience had seen 3D flight by bigger helis, so they all seemed to enjoy it very much.

Now I feel terrible... :( I was looking forward for this the past 2 weeks... Unfortunately an unexpected death of our next door neighbor delayed my departure. At last when me and ANTA were ready to leave, my relative told me the rain was stronger towards thrissur.
Sad part is, because of me ANTA too did not come... Looks like my plane is not flying anytime soon..... :(

Oh :( It would have been nice to put faces to more names !
That pic was taken just before we left... as you can see, the ground is dry ! And that was only a sample of aircraft we had, there was many more, including a Skyartec Cessna just like you have !

Thanks for posting the video ! This was one of the quick "trim/test" flights. Looks like no one captured the full flight later on with the new battery.
Are there more videos to be uploaded, especially the airplane ones ?

Good evening friends..is there anyone interested in water based model making..?.i am bored with aeromodelling and now started making ships and boats.its too fascinating than aero, as it will give more than enough time in running while compared to aero.with a 2800 Mah 7.2 volt battery pack, we only get a time of 4 minutes around in an aero rc..while i gets more than an hour in water based crafts..any one..please..

Not really... depending on the type of aircraft (meaning light) and the motor used etc, such a battery can provide around 15 minutes of flight time easily on many types of models, and possibly more on others.
Plus, there are so many things to do in aeromodelling itself. Threads like this one below provide a glimpse into how involved it can be !
no,it's not like like compairing hk clones to align.u can get the the same mood for a much lower price :giggle: :giggle:

I hope people like you from Ernakulam build a team and start a club with regular flying some where near the city !
Glad to be a member of RC India. As planned, today, I (along with my son) visited Mr. Prakkat at Kottayam. It was a nice visit. The hospitality of Prakkat chettan is remarkable. Even in the midst of busy life, he was very enthusiastic while explaining about the hobby. The collections at his residence also is very attractive and systematic. We had a brief discussion on the topic for an hour and he has demonstrated the usage of the simulator for training. Where all in Kerala RC clubs are existing and whether in Ernakulam, any regular meets are there ?

There are no real clubs or regular meets... only some enthusiasts flying mostly alone in various parts. Of course you met Prakkat in Kottayam, then there is Santhosh in Irinjalakuda, and there is some activity near TVM.
It is sad that no real club and regular flying activity is happening in a city like Kochi ! :(

We did not get time to sing together. We did not get time to fly aircraft also. But, I have seen how nicely Prakkat ji made a number of union people fly ;D. They came uninvited for unloading items came for prakkatji and demanded huge money.
Prakkat ji has explained the method of flying crafts to me. Also demonstrated the simulator in PC for training. Now, I am thinking of purchasing one trainer software in PC for learning how to fly and drive crafts. I got some contacts and references from Prakkat ji.
