Title: RC Skills - Sim Videos
Post by: vinay on August 01, 2010, 03:50:04 PM
Guys and Gals, Please Use This Thread to Post Your Sim Videos. Anwar, can this be made sticky? Would be very interesting to see skills of others and display ours w/o crashing  ;)

Since this is a sim recording, Please provide the number of attempts you took to record the video w/o crashing. Being Honest is all the FUN!  ;)

If using a good sim, please switch on the "TRANSMITTER STICK movement radio" to be displayed on the screen!

Limit your videos to 1 to 2.5 mins so that its watchable.

How to record Videos:

1) Use FRAPS and associate a hot key with it and set all the settings under the video menu.
2) I first do built in recording on RF G4.5. (Its a non video format.)
Note: Using FRAPS directly when flying needs a killer CPU, So record it using the RFs built in recorder and then record using fraps using RFs playback.

3) Playback the video from the RF recording and use the FRAPS hotkey to begin recording.
4) The file recorded by fraps is un compressed. It will be approximately 2 to 5 GB.
5) To reduce the file size, Import the file in Window Movie maker and select the "Save to computer" option and select the quality you like.
6) Upload to Youtube.
7) Use the Youtubs audio feature to change the Audio, I recommend not changing the Audio.

NOTE: If using FMS, then you dont need to pre record the video, i.e, you can skip step 2 and directly press the FRAPS hotkey and start flying. Press the FRAPS hot key again to stop recording. Then continue with Step 4.

Hope this helps.  :)

How can I record a video on FMS, I know other softwares have an option to record and playback your flight.

Thanks

I dont even own a foamie yet, so here are my sim skills ;) . Hovering planes felt very easy after I learnt to fly HK450. Cant still do a torque roll, I loose orientation once the plane turns around. Could have practiced by now, but I find flying helis more interesting. Dont know why Helis interested me more than planes. :headscratch: I was/am basically a plane-guy  ;D

ATTEMPTS: First Attempt.

nice flying on the sim, but the real world is different :giggle:. i was able to hover the plane on the sim as long as i wish but on my addiction itw as hardly abt 10 seconds ;)

Jack up the wind in the sim, and make the model off-balance a bit (add trim on couple of control surfaces).  Practice that way on the sim, and you will be better equipped for the field ;)

If you have a radio already... this is a very good option :

Ya BTW I chose the 4th most stable plane to do this since I wanted the video in a single attempt, Yak w/o gyro is the most stable for hovering.

Thanks for the comments, can anyone do torque rolls when hovering? If yes please post the videos. I believe Anwar can put up a video which can surely attract a lot of people to this thread with their own videos.

I hope this thread increases the sim awareness/usage in people.

Many people do torque rolls, especially on the sim.  I am sure people like Wasi bhai can do a lot more justice than I can.

mmmm.....yes...its true...hovering and torque rollin is easier to do on sims then in actual...but thats y we use sims....to learn orientation...!!! once we get thru basic orientation, sims are of no use (i personally found IKARUS to be the best to learn sequence...never flew g3.5 and later so cant comment...but older Realflight sims and loads of other sims including XTR was a waste for me...)

coming to torque roll...it is just one more additional thing to do after hovering...orient on rudder while bellying in...!!! this is fairly fairly simple guys....first and foremost, please allow the model to torque because first thing that we all do is stop the model from torquing by all necessary corrections and means...!!! also, if you dont torque, precise control of hovering is difficult...especially in bigger aircrafts...so far orientation is concerned, once the model bellies in towards you, watch out for the wing drop...whatever "side" the wing drops, blindly give "same side rudder correction"...just mug it up...""left side drop while model bellys in, left rudder correction..""...its as simple as that...for people already at mid hovering stage, this will take not more than 10 mins to figure out and there you are....torque rolling your birds...

i have seen so so so many people who can hover successfully but dont torque roll...y...cause they are scared to go into one...but the fact of the matter is, if we dont get into it, how can we learn to control it...!!!

anyways...happy torquing...:)

I have completely mastered hovering now these are very old videos of me doing hovering, now I am fine tuning torque rolling and rolling circles.
