Thanks... :salute:

So I have to pay 3500Rs + Customs to Hobbyking HK.
Then Hobbyking pays the Customs and send the item to me.
Or I have to pay the customs separately? ???

This is my first deal outside India.

Please REPLY   :help:

Nithinraj Kotian

first you have to buy the radio and after they get clear payment, they will ship the item to your location. it takes 10 to 12 days to arrive Banglore customs and custom duty you have to pay separately.(if your parcel get detain then only you have to pay otherwise no duty)

 Hi,  :)
I am planing to buy '3ch surface radio' from hobbyking  HK.

Should I go For, Express and large parcel shipments
                                            OR
                      Flat Rate International Shipments

If the total weight is 1000g and cost around 75$, how much Customs I have to pay for Bangalore?  :headscratch:

Hi Anikethan.N.

Better go for International (Registered) Air Mail 751g - 1kg ($17.95). There are many guys who reported numerous hassles (at customs office) when ordering through EMS. If the parcel is through International (Registered) Air Mail, customs are generally not charged as the guys at the customs dept think (I read in numerous forums) that there is nothing of precious value in it (otherwise ppl would have ordered through EMS)!!

Anyway, customs charged is ~17% of TOTAL order value (including shipping costs).

You can check here for more details on customs:

 Hi, Nairitb

Sorry, But where i have to pay the customs.

If no customs will it straightly come to my house.

nairitb

One more thing. Importing Radio systems into India requires license from Wireless Planning & Coordination Wing, Govt of India. So your parcel wont clear customs (if you dont pay HEFTY amounts, bribe) if you order through EMS as all EMS parcels go through customs screening.

nairitb

Customs Duty is generally collected by the postman of your local Post Office when delivering the parcel to you. In case the customs office is in the same city where you reside, you might even be called there. However, this is very rare and in most cases its because you enquired at the customs office about your parcel's status or your parcel contains some BANNED items (eg - rc control systems). They MAY then demand bribes for clearing your parcel.

Order through International (Registered) Air Mail, keep parcel weight low (below 1.5kg) and dont call customs office. You should be fine.

 Hi Nairitb, :hatsoff:

If I use international airmail(registered)17$ to import 2ch radio from Hobbyking HK,
Do I need to get permission from Wireless Planning Commission(WPC),
And
Do I need to pay Customs. ???

Legally speaking, YES you need an IMPORT LICENSE from WPC (Wireless Planning & Coordination Wing) for importing ANY RADIO EQUIPMENT. But you need to submit lots of documents when applying for the license. The process is sooo cumbersome for general people, that rarely does anyone apply for this license when importing for PERSONAL USE. So technically speaking, everyone of us is breaking law!! Anyway, for your convenience, following is a list of what you need when applying:

Import of De-licensed band equipments-

1. Duly filled application form downloaded from www.wpc.dot.gov.in
2. Print-out of online application filed for import license
3. Copy of Signed Purchase order from the applicant to foreign supplier
4. Copy of signed Invoice from the supplier to the applicant
5. Technical literature/specification of the equipment regarding the band of frequency, power etc should be furnished and should match with decision letter.
6. Copy of ETA of the wireless equipment proposed for import, which are operating 2.4GHz/5GHz bands.

ETA is Equipment Type Approval. For ETA, again you need to procure a Technical report from an Accredited Laboratory which has run tests on the device you want to import and has confirmed that it conforms to all standards & regulations according to Indian Law.

Plainly speaking, you need to physically HAVE the equipment with you BEFORE importing it.!!! Isn't that absurd?? Well, kind of. It is possible for a registered importer. But in our case, it is difficult to obtain a ETA.

In any case, if importing equipment for personal use, obtaining Import License is FREE. I thought of applying once. Sent a mail to WPC regarding clarifications on these points. Called their office telephone numbers. No reply till date. I live in Guwahati (Assam). I went to the Regional Office of WPC for North-East which happens to be at Guwahati. Found that it is closed since many many months!!! Neglected region anyway. So not surprised :D I gave up. You live in Bangalore. I think there is a WPC office there. check http://www.wpc.dot.gov.in/ for address. Go there and ask somebody if you are seriously thinking of getting a license. It might probably solve all your problems.

nairitb

And ya. you have to pay CUSTOMS DUTY even of you hold an IMPORT LICENSE. But then, customs people wont be able to harrass you or demand bribes as you have done everything according to INDIAN LAW. Customs on RADIO equipments is 15% plus 2-3% extra cess.

raja_mastana

Hi,
It was ordered from infinity-hobby.com. Weight was about 300 gms. I am used to prompt clearance from EMS when parcels are small - but never expected a clearance on Sunday!
