Generally EMS wont get locked up in the Indian postal ware house for long. Hence it may reach you in slightly lesser time. And there are times where I have recieved air mails faster than ems! So its all your luck.

himank

How much time does EMS usually takes from being shipped from HK to reaching your local post office?

vinay

For me after I get the EMS number from HK its 11 days to 13 days. Have patience and till you get the car, practice hard on the simulator  :giggle: ;)

himank

Thanks a lot for your time and words. :)

vinay

Welcome bro! Oh BTW which radio for the car?

Hi people,
After waiting for a long time i am still confused about the luck of my Parcel.
Why is it juggling up between the custom offices?
Can anyone please help.

vinay

All normal. Learn to relax.

1)First customs(where parcel lands) see if item should be allowed at all.
2)Local customs see how much to charge.
3)I may be wrong.

vinay

Its the second customs where things usually get delayed. EMS should get cleared within 2 to 3 working days. air parcels sometime take upto 10 working days.

Does this mean my parcel MAY has no/almost no chances of detention now

vinay

Not necessarily. As my 3rd point say, I might be wrong. For example a radio is not a dangerous thing, so it passes the 1st customs, but may totally get screwd up at the local ones ;)

EDIT: Ok himank, before you generate more questions, forget you ordered a car for next 3 working days  ;)

himank

Oh,thanks, i may refer my dad to them in case things go wrong.
Or should i ask my dad to contact them now for some relaxation/ exemption from duty.

vinay

That, your dad can answer better. coz I dont know how close/influential he is to customs officer.

himank

He works for Customs and central Excise department (Assitant Commissioner), although he is posted in a totally diffferent department, but still, i thought may be they may give some relaxation considering the "Staff" thing.

A quick question ,

I've ordered nothing more than just spare ESCs, servos and other small spares in HK and I've declared 100% value (88.93 on parts and 23.59 on shipping). My parcel was dispatched today by swisspost and I was wondering if there would be any issue with the customs over spares (No radios/airframes) such as Lipo charger, ESCs, servos and props?

Thanks!

He says it's $88.23 (parts) and $23.59 (shipping)

That might attract the attention of the customs officers.

satyagupta

ragav bro no offence but are you crazy, there are very high chances of customs holding your parcel up man.. Because it over permissible value limit (INR 2000)

@vineet hows you man?? any updates about your quad??

You should've quoted 3/4ths the price or lesser.

It depends on many factors. From what i have heard and experienced, Mumbai customs rarely let any go by easily. Delhi/Kolkata seems slightly more relaxed.
Not sure about south
The items you mentioned should not cause much problems, but the weight (1kg), may not let it go duty free. Also, customs evaluation is done on entire amt (shipping incl)

I feel the same too. I receive La Poste (france) packets atleast once a month, they all come via Delhi and they contain coins. They never get detected, and never charged/detained (except once)

I have observed something quite odd with the kolkata customs. Whenever I get a parcel through swisspost, they charge customs, regardless of the value of the package. But other postal services pass through without any customs. I recently recieved a $48(declared value) package through hkpost which was quite big and heavy and no customs, while I had to pay customs for a smaller cheaper package recieved through swisspost..

I had ordered a rtf heli (450 v2) with radio long back,  huge parcel, came via delhi un opened and undetected ;)
