I was just wondering as to how one can come to know as to what is the status of his package from one of the overseas hobby shops. The tracking shows it to be with the customs since the 28th of July and it contains 5 servos along with some connectors and bolts and a couple of props. What kind of wait should i be looking at and would this parcel be detained for any reason?
Waiting to hear from the frequent buyers.

@Surya: Go with all the paper documents and other stuffs. Talk to these guys, also ask them if they generate local tracking number.
I think you need to pay some extra charges etc. Nothing to worry!
I understand these situations are very irritating..

@DoC Hi there! I think you should wait for some more time, atleast this week! Sometimes they don't update the status.
And I really don't think your order is detained, as you have no expensive items in it!
So don't worry at all DoC, just give a little more time, then we'll see.....

Well, they said there's a 61% duty on the parts, even though it was mentioned college project parts outside the box itself. Also, they charged customs on the entire amount (Including Shipping) which ended up a Duty of Rs. 4400 on a Total Amount of 10,000. They were ready to settle it for a bribe of 2 -3K. I've never had this issue when importing by Fedex, UPS, DHL. Wondering if I should get more info using RTI on this.

Anyway, Parts were dispatched, I've to pay the duty at the post office and collect them today.

If it is EMS, and Hobbyking, wait a week then go to the customs office. Which city are you in? If it is mumbai, I could help you with the location.

Its EMS and I'm in Indore. Guess I'll wait another few days and then hopefully I should also be able to post on the forum "Mil Gaya". ;-)

@Anwar... Thank you Anwar. The free advise is most appreciated. I'll just sit tight and wait. As it is no hurry at present. Will take 5 days to make the Adrenaline and can't fly the baby till we have rains here......... so I have another 20 - 25 days.

iamsurya, can you please explain more how this works - didnt the postal officials help/advice anything?
or did they ask you to directly meet the customs?

The Post office gave me a Holding No. which I gave to the Customs People (Both the dept's are in the same building). It then proceeded as mentioned before.

Also, my box was pretty heavy, about 2kgs and worth 178$, so it was bound to get caught.

paid on 24/7/11 ...shipped on 26....got parcel on 3/8/11 ....that means 8 days....no custom duty

61% !!! are you importing Sports Car or what ? If you have  time and money, I would highly encourage you to to file and RTI case against the goons... their only intention to put a 61% duty was to force you to settle it out of office. Folks please don't encourage such incidents... The mention of RTI  itself sometimes scares the officials.

FYI there is no duty slab of 60% on items we usually import

I think only Hong Kong Post is fast, not the Swiss Post.

Earlier the name was Calcutta and at present Kolkata. Please update.

I am shifting delhi ...hoping to meet some RC friends in there.

One of my friend booked few things for me from HK, on 29th July and I recevied the pack at my home town yesterday i.e, 6th August . I was expecting it by tomorrow, but just 8 days from HK to Rayagada.

Wow that is fast. My package has been in customs since the 28th......... still waiting.

Any suggestions guys?
