Subu ,
Not really a problem  :D you need not sound apologetic you are free to buy where it suits you no issues .

We offer service, guidance, support  etc  to the local hobbyist who  value that.
You your self have been one whose multiple calls have been attended even at night when you were new to this hobby not that you are too old to it now  ;D ;D
That in marketing terms is called value addition . These services and support is not offered by on line shops like hobby city .
We have replaced products having defects to our regular buyers , including products damaged in transit as well .
We adjust to buyers needs  and  go out of the way to meet specific requirements
That is why local hobby shops all over the world are still in business  ;D.

At no time can we be as cheap as hobby city  or similar for individual small orders because we legally import , all imports made by us is registered under our IEC code number  so we have to pay the duties in line with the Governmental regulations  which is anywhere between 25 -35 %  so our prices even when we buy from the manufacturers directly will always be higher than an individual buying small parcels , we cannot nor are we interested in competing with such purchases , We also pay local taxes like VAT which is 12.5% as well.

Hence nearly 50 % gets added on to the buying price + shipping for us by way of just govt. levies  .

There is no duty in Hong Kong hence they can be cheaper  without doubt .

As far as Assan is concerned they  will not allow undercutting  as a policy hence the prices will be similar where ever they are sold . Check the price of this Singapore store :
http://aerialhobby.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=10
Same as hobby City .

If you check the Assan Site now we are the official dealers of theirs in India :
http://www.assan.cn/main/index-4.html

So our pricing will be on similar lines + Duties etc as applicable .
Of course I must add the support , discounts , deals  we offer is directly proportional to the loyalty of the customers  ,  ;) :D . I have no problems saying that now as well because after all we are in business and we would surely value  customers who buy regularly from us  and value these additional advantages  and go that extra distance to support them  .

This is to clearly state that as the buyers have the right to buy where it suits them the sellers also have their right to  differenctiate between buyers based on their parameters  .

We are happy that there are many more customers who understand these points and support us  and  welcome them .

The  reason for this post is to highlight the point of view as far as  local hobby shops are concerned  and make  members aware of the  counter point .

Anwar ,
I have never really  participated in any discussion which relates to hobby shops as I really  don't feel it is right of me to do so , even in the earlier thread in your post  I only particiapated only when I was asked to  a few points  specifically by members.

That is because I could realize there that it was mature individuals talking about relatively small orders where we cannot really compete with nearly 50% added to our CFR prices by way of Govt Levies where as places like HK have nil if not negligible duties  .

But in the case of this thread the matter is all together different  anyway don't want to elaborate further  .

I wanted to make it clear that we local hobby shop's are not over charging like it is made out to be  we have issues being local businesses  and not operating out of a place where duties and levies are next to nothing .

So I felt it was important to state our pint of view clearly so that we are not misunderstood on account of ill informed comments .

As said earlier  we have no issues as such because there are more knowledgeable, long term  buyers   than the other type in India as of now   ;D ;D.

Sai

PS : Subu as pointed out  Hobby city has been in business for a long time and people have been aware  of it as well  in fact before we started itself   despite which all RC shops have seen  business growth  that is one of the other reasons I said no issues

I am all for any type of discussion. Just wanted to point out that it is better to post in existing topics on the same subjects, instead of posting new threads on the same subject.

In general, just use the search option before starting new threads.

While hobbycity is cheap and quality reasonable, I found them to be rude when I spoke to them on the phone. We must support the Indian sellers so that they are able to grow their business and someday stock as many items as hobbycity has......and the support they have provided for this hobby over the years.

I think that alot of items are as cheap or cheaper than Hobbycity available in India.

When we compare prices please take into consideration the exchange rate, freight, and sometimes even the custom duties.

Like CF Rod solid 2mm in hobbycity it is for USD 1.15 which is Rs. 57/58 approx for 750mm length whereas the same is available in INDIA from indian hobby shops for Rs. 64/- for 1000mm length so even hobby shops in India are as cheap or cheaper than hobbycity etc. This is just a example i for a fact have seen many products which are actually cheaper than hobbycity or other online shops abroad here in India. Also shipping of USD 5 min as mentioned by Subbu is Rs. 250/- approx whereas shops in india ship for less Rs. 120/- and the shipping by hobbycity at times takes 15 days whereas hobby shops india shipments reach the very next day. Please note that only when we support local hobby shops can we see the prices coming down here in India basically economics.

Completely agree with Zipper Jai Ho.

I've paid as high as rs 250 for 3mm cf tubes from indian sellers ??? ??? ???
Even within the country, some parts are affordable at some places and some parts elsewhere........ its up to the customers to look around b4 buying. But then ofcourse, we get quality advice ;) from our indian sellers..... for instance, Mr Sai introduced me to kebab sticks 4 reinforcement, using pvc instead of ply etc which has saved me some dough. Like, we have a saying in tamil which goes like this..... kooti kalichu patha kannaku sariya irukum. Which means, u can calculate as much as u please but, end of the day, everything works out roughly the same. Dharma, karma, fate, destiny, whatever........

Yes, shipping charges are on the higher side. Like I would really like one shipping charge applied to the order a whole vs. shipping charges applied for each item in an order, though they all get shipped together. Item prices are anyway good.

rckatty

@ martian the price is less than Rs 90/- now here in india. Most hobby shops in india ship all over india.

The problem is that when we see prices on hobby shops abroad we see e.g. $300/- so we think only $ 300/- but when the same is available in India we think Rs. 15000/- that alot. The entire thinking is in the mind.

Are you refering to Hobby Shops in India or Abroad.

This is the situation only on e-bay even where it is possible to negotiate with the seller. Hobbycity charges by shipping  weight and not by individual parts.........

CF Rods and Tubes + foam sheets have higher cost of courier be it from India or abroad for the simple reason that the parcel is charged for by the carrier on volume weight basis and not actual weight basis. It just cannot be any other way because they by their very nature their volume exceeds their actual weight  eg you might have a parcel weighing 1/2KG but will be charged by the courier for 5 kg's becuase the parcel occupies the volume equivalent of a 5 KG parcel .
In case of combined shipment of these with other parts like you would from Hobby city you are actually paying a higher cost of shipment for the other parts as well because  their shipping rates are based on volume of the larger part .You will not realize this as the shipping cost is combined and they mention the box is provided FOC hence you are happy , but you ought to know that you are paying for the shipment of the whole box.
In our case we send them as two individual parcels so that the customer can save on the courier for the smaller box. We can also combine it and charge you the volume weight of both put together we have no issue with that if you so desire . :D

General feeling seems to be that shipping is high.......... which is not without reason. 90% of time i avoid shipping by jus walking into Sai's place and picking things up ;D grab some info and chit chat as well 8)
Everyone must have someone nearby.......... though in the busy mechanical times that we live, online is more tempting by the minute..........
