In my experience duty is charged if the total is 10,000 inr or more. Also I use aramex shop and ship. This way I'm sure my item will reach me in 5 days. And I get tracking updates.

Rs. 10,000 applies to passenger duty free baggage allowance

PunchedGrunion

@ Sanjay.    I'm not sure about that. But aramex told me I can buy stuff worth 10,000 inr with out paying duty.

Also regarding your baggage allowance you can bring USED personal items worth 35,000 inr duty free. double check to be sure with CBEC website. The rules regarding dutiable items isint very clear for RC related products.

I bring and buy (online) stuff all the time. Haven't been asked to pay duty yet 😊

Hello RC pilots, I guess this is the most relevant thread to ask my first question. I am planning to order WL v977 from banggood.com They have cheapest price and free standard shipping (7-25 days). My concern is about the 2.4 GHz radio transmitter included in the package. Total price is below $100 USD but I am not sure about total weight of the package.

Does anyone have prior experience in ordering RTF Helis from Hong Kong / China? if yes please advise me.

I can see RTF packages of WL v922 available online in India hence there can not be any ban on importing.

nikhil1988

newHeliFlyer, you better order v977 from any online store within India, as foreign imports office would definitely block it asking for an NOC certificate from WPC for its 2.4Ghz radio.
I had ordered one and after trying a lot to convince both customs and WPC officers had to return it back to Banggood. It has not yet reached banggood and my money is now stuck.

newHeliFlyer

Thanks for sharing your experience Nikhil. sorry to hear about your bad luck, hope you'll get a refund.
I searched quite lot online for availability of v977 in India but no success yet. Do you have some pointers?

Rcjabalpur

You better find something in india itself , if you are hell bent on getting it from abroad DO NOT GO FOR STANDARD SHIPPING , go for UPS or FEDEX or DHL they will get it out for you but you will pay import duty

Well, i dont think even UPS OR FEDEX will be able to get it. It really depends on how seriously the FPO in your city takes their work. In Mumbai they are damn serious it seems. By law any radio not type approved by WPC shall not be imported. Even though an ebay seller in Delhi could managed to get it and I bought it from him. May be someone in Delhi would be of any help for you.

Nikhil , sorry but you are wrong i got my Futaba 10J from UPS world wide saver from Tower Hobbies without a single issue , my friend got a Futaba 14 SG from the same route sgain no problem , i know the person who sold me my Nexstar Mini RTF had gone for the same . I doubt if i can denounce so many incidents rest is upto you

I read a very long thread regarding this same topic in this forum and it seems that guys have had all sort of experiences. Some suggests that registered air mail is the best to avoid any customs scrutiny. Nikhil, as you said it all depends on the location too, it seems. I am in Bangalore and I just took(before reading these replies) a small risk of ordering only transmitter worth about Rs 2500 by registered air mail. I could not find FexEx /DHL / UPS etc as shipping option and many people suggested EMS is no go. I will hope for the best. I just can't find any one selling v977 in India. rajjaiswal92 glad to know about your positive experience I hope I'll get the radio. Thanks.

Good news!
I got my WL v977 transmitter today. It was shipped by Banggood.com on 26 Aug 2014. Now I am going to order for the v977 heli BNF version.
I guess I am one of those who got lucky with customs.
Thanks to RC India for the wealth of knowledge shared here.

For anyone who would like to know what I did.
I ordered the radio transmitter alone. The cost was 39 USD. Banggood.com made a customs declaration of 7 USD, looks like that is the cost of production;-)
Also, as I paid using my paypal account I was able to instruct banggood to drop shipping order. So the package came with out any invoice and with out any info about who shipped it.
Shipment method was Registered Airmail.
There was no tracking updates available on websites (except that it was sent from china). I just had to have some patience  :)

I also noticed something else about the package! I just want to say that banggood took care of the matter and they seem to know the customs trouble in India.

Hi Prabal,

You can order them with ease, only thing is that you have to track it and once it comes to your Delhi customs, they will release a letter to your communication address stating that they need invoice copy of your order and bank statement/credit card for that particular transaction.

You can send those document via post to customs office but this will be more time taking, so better, you physically go there with the documents. They will ask you that what is inside/ all seems electronic items/nothing is written anywhere it is for hobby something like that, you can calmly say them that Sir it is totally for hobby, they will say you it contains electronic items and you need to pay 30% duty on it.
rest how you deal with the assistant commissioner customs, if your lucky he will ask you to write a application saying that all is for my personal use and not contains any electronics, then he will release them with minimum duty approx around 15%.

after that you go back to your home, as they will not give you your parcel there,Your cleared papers will go to the sub foreign post office Delhi area(that u can google). after that it will come by post to your address, where you need to pay the 15% money to the postmaster.

Things to take in mind:
1)Track your foreign tracking number and call sub foreign post office 1st and ask them the corresponding Indian parcel number for it, the foreign tracking number will not work after it goes to customs.

2) the local parcel number will be your tracking number in customs office.

3) when they ask you something at customs office: just say it is for personal use.

that is it, nothing serious, but it is bit time taking.

Here in Bangalore the above process is like it, things may differ acc to places :), but here all is good, all are working good in govt offices very professionally.

regards,
Kulbhushan
