I would start by thinking about which parts I would make myself, and which I would get from outside, as an RC car has a lot of pieces to it, plus power system etc.

More importantly, I would really think about if would be able to compete with the existing Chinese production shops.

You can use this forum to get a rough idea for what people are interested in, and to some degree about how many people are into cars.  Beyond that, forums will not provide answers to these questions.

In my opinion, you need to buy one to know them inside out. Thunder tiger is selling cars at a very cheap price, if your product can beat them in terms of price and quality, you have a market there.. This my opinion, please don't get me wrong.

Selling them is easy once your product starts winning national races in India..

Its just not possible to compete with these mass market cars makers. TT has opened the largest RC factory recently which will catapult them to the largest volume producer.

If you have access to good machining and designing facility, I would suggest you make upgrade parts at a cheaper cost.

Most upgrade parts are made in US as most Chinese are not very keen due to lower volumes/high quality. That pushes up the price of these parts. If you want to limit yourself to India, study the market to see the most common cars sold in India. Understand their weakness and build upgrades and parts that will make the life easier for users.

Unless you go flat out, you cannot survive in the mass market. Another way is to make very high quality and low volume cars like Xray, Hudy stuff. I met the owners of many RC companies at Thailand. What I could understand is either make high quality, low volume stuff or lower quality and lower price.

Good to see the inputs. I really appreciate your time and support. Meanwhile i was just thinking when we order stuff from China its only few dollars as compared to US /Canada/Europe. I am a RC car fan , for last 5 years I am into RC but i see like lot of talent is there in India to compete against Mass Market. Making RC stuff at begining will be difficult due to lack of operating facilities or machinery. But I am keen to do something like making RC car Chasis ( carbon and Aluminium ) or sourcing my work to other vendors providing different parts. Please advise

BTW I own TC4 Associated RC car and X ray .. Sorry didn't mention earlier

You will be 1st person in India to Manufacture RC cars. Carbon Chassis is not a good idea, if you come for the RCINC race in Bangalore you will get an idea on the scale of RC cars in India, see under RC events. You can tap the college market, these mechanical students buy RTR cars and re fabricate the shock tower, arms, chassis etc. That is a huge market for you.

thanks buddy... I spoke to Harish the guy from RCINC . I think you are right , actually i want to get people from engineering college ( WB / Bihar), huge number of students who are unemployed but they have good knowledge abt mechanical stuff and electronics. It's just an idea and i have lot to plan and work.

all the best with your venture .I too stand by the others in suggesting that you make upgrades rather than full rc cars.
