Used to do aero-modelling in school, Airforce NCC. Some control line flying. Great sport! R/C was a pipe dream then. Remained an aviation enthusiast and an avid flight simmer (Pilot rating ICAO india). Luv flying and started planning to get a private licence.

Got started in R/C now with a RTF electric heli coaxial. Also building a Giant Scale F4U corsair (Project started 2 years back and then hung). Would like to share this wonderful hobby with my son (7 years old). Right now converting a TX that is kaput to simulator use (adding a USB board and rewiring)..

Cheers to all in this sport....

Welcome.
Which flight sim did you use ? I have been hooked to Microsoft Flight Simulator since 12 years now. I still do cross country VOR nav flying on it once a week.
I love doing island hopping flights in the Carribean, based on complete VFR ( Visual flight rules ) , then also like mountain flying in the Swiss alps, and sometimes flying airliners into IFR with no visibility.

MSFS 2004 currently. Island hopping in VFR is something I enjoy too. Greatest spoiler of sim in India, poor joysticks and availability of gear (Atleast in south). Do you participate in Yearly (VFR/IFR) tours and special events at ICAO?

Not flown for nearly a year now. Got busy with the business of life. Should get back again....

Welcome Antony! Would LOVE to see some build pics of the Corsair. Please post asap!

Merry Christmas!

Not that I know of. Since I got the heli, I do the flying mostly at home. I myself am looking to venture out. The NCC people used to use the G.V Raja sports school near Shangumugham. But for that we need permission etc. It is near the Trivandrum Airport...

anto let me wish u a merry x mas. well i am also an ex air cadet of  1 kerala air sqn NCC. has done extensive aermodelling. flying was limited to control line then. during my time 1980 - 85 flying was done 1. salvation army school, flying club, GV raja sports school ,mar ivanius college and pangode. flying RC which i had done only twice then and crashed(air ncc model and equipment 2 channel non propotional), was at airport and at pangode. all these place are now ruled out for RC flying.

may be some place is yet to be discovered for use to fly RC. may be you can help.

for flying choppers yes there is an excellent location. go to kanakakkunu palace to the newly created rear side( approach to horticultural society) area. if there are no exhibitions going on its the place to be. i have suggested this place to my friend vinod madhav, and he told he had done regular RC aircraft flying there. but a crash your chances of getting back your plane is remote. but for choppers yes this is the place.

I don't plan to carry Atom or anything else this time. Not confident of checking in a heli and LiPos considering the way they handle the baggage. If I pack them in carry on baggage, am sure they'll go into a tizzy at the security check.

May be next time, I have this dream of driving down stopping at all the interesting places.

Are you sure you will not exhibit withdrawal symptoms ?  :giggle:

How about the cheap chinese one ?  :P

I'm on the way to recovery from the withdrawal. I have hardly flown this year due to various reasons. So much that I am really out of touch. Just got back to heli flying this weekend. Not even able to do a tic tocs or inverted properly. It is more of doubt in my mind than anything else. Things are improving with every flight, so hopefully will be back in a few sessions.

Am really considering taking the cheap one for someone.

That used to be where we (Jawahar Balbhavan class) did control flying in the 80's
