Finally met up with our "master scratch-builder" member Ashta  :thumbsup:

Although he was on a short stop over, we got to spend about 2 hours, including a bit of heli 3D demo outside the house, and a visit to the club.  The trainer (technical resource) at the club who has also been doing scratch builds for over 20 years made a good match for Ashta, and the conversations got really interesting  ;)

Hopefully he will post the pictures after he gets back to Bangalore.

Also thanks  for taking me and showing the 3D-Heli flying. i never expected that you would be able to make it within such short time.  {:)}
The club also was wonderful and i never knew that such a wonderful thing exists in doha.

Just wanted to put in a word about one of the photos Ashta posted.

This is a robot camel jockey developed by the Qatar Scientific Club (QSC).  Earlier, camel races were held with young kids riding them, and it raised some human rights issues.  So QSC, which has a bunch of activities including RC flying/cars, robotics, electronics, computers, general science etc, took it upon itself to build a robot that would replace the human jockeys.

It is interesting to note that the new robot has the ability to heart-rate monitoring, and involves "linux and C" (you can read some of the aspects in the attached photo itself).

Does the RC-Jockey ride a real camel?? Never heard of this, remember little kids doing this years back on TV.

This kind of club would be great in at least every city where there is a quorum of modellers.

Of course ! There were pictures of the same in the information display right behind, and you can see the legs of the camels in the photo itself.

Finally had the pleasure/privilege of visiting the famed "top-floor" of Ashta bhai's house in Bangalore (as a part of a one day trip to Bangalore on business).  We did not have time to go do any flying, but just seeing the variety of the models built by him (including non-RC stuff) was an eye opening experience !

Thanks again Ashta bhai for all the hospitality :)

I have never met him, but I, perhaps, know him a lot better than many on this forum. I consider myself very lucky in this respect. His humility is amazing.
