Extremely rare bird. Me 109K-4 of 1./KG(J)6

She belonged to the 1st Staffel of KG(J)6. I identified it by the white seven and the Red and Black Karoband at the aft fuselage. The unit was based at Prague and later at Bohemia (now part of Czechoslovakia) and surrendered on 8th May 1945.

KG (Kampfgeschwader) 6 was originally a Bomber unit. It was hurriedly upgraded to a Bomber / Fighter unit [Hence renamed to KG(J)6 - J for Jagdgeschwader or Fighter Wing] with the inclusion of such aircraft and FW 190's.

The saddest part of the Gulbarga Me 109, is that it arrived in India in pristine flying condition.

first name that comes to my mind is Erich 'Bubi' Hartmann

PS
About Bubi
Erich Hartmann, the most famous ace in history of aerial combat, had a total of 352 confirmed kills. One of the best known surviving Luftwaffe aces. During the latter half of WWII, his planes were adorned with a "black tulip" (So will be mine, as a tribute to Bubi)

I am sorry for hijacking this thread, but I am forced to post this picture. It is heartbreaking to see an 'Emil' reduced to this by our disgusting, nauseating Indian political system. I hang my head in shame.

Grateful thanks to Guy Black, Esq. and www.preservedaxisaircraft.com

Interesting story about the Black Tulip art work. It is due to this art work that the Russians nicknamed Hartmann as 'Черный Черт' or Black Devil. His aircraft became the most feared and his opponents stayed away from him. Novices were allocated this aircraft, so that they could fly peacefully! However, as his number of kills dropped due to the Russian pilots avoiding him, Hartmann was forced to remove that artwork from his aircraft, so that he wouldn't be recognised. His score rose dramatically after that.

Here is a replica of his famous aircraft.

rcpilotacro, my apologies for having ruined this thread. Admin / Mod - if you feel fit, please split this and keep the original thread intact.

:) Dear VC, I second the proposal of Sundaram {:)} {:)} . Why not start some such thread for no-vices like us? May be later, after some time it may bloom up to be a primer for people like us or perhaps better than that .....My regards :hatsoff:.

flyingboxcar

Are you planning to recover and paint if that's to be HU-763?
My Tiggie is gathering dust due to other commitments, but the intention is to clear the deck and start on it again. Yes it's been almost a year and I have no intentions of rushing the build. I will take my time to work on it.

Separate threads for both will be posted soon.

Friend visiting Singapore got it, :hatsoff: to his ingenuity and foresight, he gave 'Chakma' to the Customs guys, by removing the motor and manuals, so it was some wood and foam, customs guys let it go, (They may have thought, crazy guy ! goes to singapore and buys some cheap light weight painted foam sheets and funnily cut plywood sheets :giggle:) gr8 thinking claus !!
