My name is Vaibhav Sharma. I keep referring to my posts in the forum to see some specific details of the aircrafts i make so i decided to make a micro blog where i can not only put a reference to my a/c but also mostly put my thought processes for others to refer to.

Cause:
I want more power, considerably more
The shaft of Rcforall motor had bent
Problems faced with aeolian
Since i had lots of 8060 props at home. I decided to buy a motor which recommends that prop
That motor was Aeolian 2822-1200, soon after i bought and built i realised that this motor is marginally undrepowered than the last one

dont buy a new motor just because shaft is bent, you can get the shafts from rctimers which will easily replace those motor's shaft. replacing will be just 5-10min.

Aeolian 2822 is a 135W motor.
I need a motor with greater wattage.
So first i speculated that i should go for at least 200W motor.
Then i decided to validate my plans so i went to rcpowers and saw this
SPECS:
Length: 53" (135 cm)
Wing Span: 36.4" (92.5 cm)
Wing Area: 4.3 sq ft (.4 sq m)
Weight(Stock): (570-850g)
POWER PARTS:
Motor: 2200 kv, 400 class (342W)
ESC: 30 AMP
Battery: 1600 mAh, 20C 11.1v
So now i am looking for good motors which can fit in my 28series motor mount, the contenders are shown in the pic attached. They have been arranged in sets of weight and according to their power.
I am inclined to buy either of the two -
C2830-KV850 or C2826-KV1900
With C2830-KV850 i will get 280W will have to buy a new ESC and its of 60g
With C2826-KV1900 i will get 260W will NOT have to buy a new ESC and its of 50g
So i feel that C2826-KV1900 wins.

I know i have a spare motor whose shaft i have replaced it with.
But i need more power.

RCDhamaka - Motor - C2826-KV1900
RCBazaar - Props - 8x4E
Hopefully they reach by Monday. I am guessing the motor will reach before the props. If it does i will do a ground run using 8060props, i am guessing it would work on my biplane.

I decided to do some research and landed on

The lazy boy's specs say
Wingspan: 78.5" (182.88cm)
Length: 52" (132.08cm)
AUW: 18 ounces (510g)
Motor: Ultrafly FRIO E/10/09 (almost any "bell" type outrunner producing 100W or more should be sufficient)
Battery: 11.1V, 1250 mAh LiPo
Servos: GWS Naro x 2
Wing area: 580 square inches
Wing loading: 4.5 ounces per square foot
I build aircrafts only when something about them intrigues me, it is not limited to a/c. It is with my 3dsMax, flash etc etc.
What intrigued me was that
1. 100W motor flying a 500g plane
2. Making an a/c out of stationary store thermocol as suggested by roopeshk
So i set out for this build.
Scaled the proportions to fit a wingspan of 100cm.
Bought standard thermocol, 3min epoxy, 120grade sandpaper.
I made the cut outs and started sanding, the sanding was very easy and smooth and i was able to manage a good airfoil.
I covered the wing with tape to make is smooth.
To make the hinges i sanded them at an angle instead of cutting and damaging the gains.
I used CF rod to strengthen the wing.
The fuselage is my staple cuboid fuselage.
The whole a/c is ready.
I will post it in a separate thread only after a successful maiden otherwise it will just spam the board.
My two major concerns are
1. I am still using elevons, i would like to move on to dihedrals but i like the idea of being able to control the roll.
2. The thermocol will NOT be crash resistant, it will break instantly.
I stayed up all night so that i wont miss out on a nice calm morning, but as it turns out its going to be stormy today. Argh!
During the night
1. I added the decals, why the shark's mouth again? because i want to see it fly, i do not wish to demean such a great symbol by not letting it feel some air.
2. I increased the elevon's surface area.
3. Added CF on the top of the wing to stiffen it even more, i already had one on the bottom but it needed more support.
Test Flight
It did glide but there were two problems
1. It did not pull up very well.
2. It kept rolling towards the portside.
3. Lost starboard side's servo to a crash.
Now waiting for new 260watt motor, I an also thinking of putting dihedral on it.
I received the new motor.
Took the a/c for a flight. It flew very well.. However i couldnt manage to land it properly all the time.
Also It drained the battery very fast and the wire from the battery melted too.
Now i will have to invest in a newer battery i am thinking of going for something more than 1000mah
I have decided to conclude this vacation's builds because only 3days are left at home. and also my battery's wires have melted :P
I couldnt try out the glider because of the failed battery. i would have loved to.
I will restart when i go back to the college, find a flying spot and settle down academically.
I have started getting interested in balsa builds. I will do research on it meanwhile.

I flew the sailplane today.
It was not as much fun to fly if compared to all my other builds, the a/c was too stubborn.
It had a HUGE turn radius, which i didn't appreciate, I like slow flyers with max degrees of freedom.
Isn't that (large turn radius) what a sailplane is meant to have?
yes it does, and that's what i didnt fancy. I am more comfortable with an unstable (maneuverable) aircraft.

Being a hard core military aviator, please allow me to say my piece even at the expense of being an outright plagiarist who is shamelessly reproducing someone's fine work of words as seen on the wall of our Cadets' Mess in the Air Force Academy some 33 years ago.......

I say this with ample conviction because having got an ATPL 20 years ago, the thought of parting ways with my combat overall and a g-suit always made my eyes moist and whenever materialism took a momentary lead, my sons vehemently opposed any fleeting thought of abandoning a single cockpit. My elder boy, all of 25, has grown huge wings of a Boeing 777 in Singapore Airlines but he still regrets not being able to step into the wornout flying boots of his father. The younger one is looking up beyond ionosphere and I am sure he will get there in a TAV someday soon....while I sip rum with my fair lady and pray for their good health. The day to hang my uniform may not be far unless the lady luck decides to make my shoulders heavier than now but she has been much generous already. I feel special and will continue to do so....forever. With all humility at my command let me say that.....us guys will always have a top view.
