Hello guys,

I am Ismail. I am a 100% SPAD flyer/builder. If you think what a SPAD means pls visit www.spadtothebone.com. I love to do scratch builds and I do a lot of experimentation in my builds. One of the best feeling in building your own plane is the satisfaction you get once it gets airbone. Further, there is an extra punch if it competes with the state-of-the-art ARFs.

Now, my hobby is taking a different path as I am getting interested in scratch building jet engines. As a result I have built my first pulsejet. Here are the links to the video of the jet and few of my best flying models (All are scratch builds.. 8) ).

For any assistance in RC do feel free to contact me on izmile -at- yahoo.com or give me a call at 9444108494..

Now that is the true spirit of aeromodeling  {:)}

You and Chan are inspiring me to build a Morback 4D VPP plane, using the plans available at  http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=1305310.

Being a heli guy primarily, I would love to mess with a plane that has throttle and pitch curves   (:|~

Thanks Anwar.

I saw some videos of the Morback and it quite funny on how it takes off inverted... Perferct for 4d flying. I guess it would take some quality time to set it up and trim the model..

Hi Anwar  ,
I had no idea what SPAD was nor a clue of scratch building till I met up with Ismail and was so inspired by his planes that post our meeting around 1 year back I have built several SPAD planes , recovered my TIGER 60 ( Electric using a SPAD wing after a BALERO ran over the original on Landing , Rebuilt the ZAGI in CORO after a Horrific Wing Fold  and most Important my SON Venkat won the IIT Tech Fest 2009 using MR MOSS a SPAD glider .

I owe all this  exitement  and development in Aero Modeling to Ismail and his SPAD's. {:)}

BTW I have found some EPP foam available and am now building a SLOFLY EPP which could also be a great  platform for the 4D .

This SPAD is really a faily inexpensive good  flyer with an 18 " wign span  What say Chan

Love the use of (your?) foot in the picture to give us an idea/scale for the size of the plane  ;D  ;D  Something like what Angelina Jolie did with a one dollar bill in the movie The Bone Collector !

PS: Just kidding  :)

I was flying the Espad 3d this weekend.  A very nice SPAD 3d plane!! In fact i was doing combat flying with Venkat.  i was flying a Moss without dihedrals (courtesy Mr.Saju) and Venkat was flying the Espad!  Had fun!! Waiting for Mr. Sai to get his depron and then the fun starts!!

Ismail, its great to see you here. You've been a tremendous encouragement to the aeromodeling community, I know that a place like this will welcome and benefit with you around.

Thank you guys... Don't keep me over the top. I am just like everyone here trying to learn new things at every possible opportunity.

Chan,

You re-kindled me on combat flying... I need just one person who could fly combat with me. Are you the one?.. 8-)

Ismail,
ESPAD 3 D is combat ready but my problem is getting over the ease of flying at Kovalam and coming to Sholavaram

Hi Genius:

I am interested in building a flying jet model of the erstwhile Gnat and am willing to meet all expenses. It is for our Aviation Museum. Could you give me some specs regarding feasibility, costs, delivery etc.
Great to see all the innovative work that you are doing. Jai Ho!

Much Obliged!

MRK Menon

izmile

Hi Menon,

Thanks for your encouraging comments.

I am quite interested in building the Gnat. However, now, I am leaving out of country for a while. I am sure there are lot of other builders who should be willing to help you out.

BTW, are you planning to use a gas turbine on the Gnat?

OK guys, I have to recant what I have written in my first post. I am NOT a 100% spadder anymore. Just got a Ripmax P51 balsa airplane. Setup the plane with my 9Z TX using an Assan RF module. The P51 has a 830KV brushless on its nose and is powered by 3S to 4S Lipo. The ESC is 40A. Still yet to be maidened as it started to rain this weekend.

I hate to baby these balsa planes. SPADs are always the best to handle!

Here is the picture..

good one .
Sometimes it is good to have a feel of the other type as well.

Ismail ,
I think you should get in touch with Deepak Chopra (b4ggu) you both are in UK .

Please update your profile as well to include UK also.

Yes, I will contact Deepak. Would be great if he is near by.

Yesterday I maidened the p51 balsa plane. It was quite tail heavy but looked beautiful on air. Here is the video. May re-fly it sometime later.

That is fantastic Ismail  {:)} {:)} {:)}

But I know being a spadder you would have your heart in your mouth when maidening a Balsa plane .

izmile

Nope.. All I wanted is to fly it. No matter what.

No point in having a beautiful plane and drooling at it all day! (Applies to many things.. ;) )

Dear Ismail:

I am interested in bulding a jet engine for students of a local engineering college. It will then be donated to the R/C museum. Can you help us with this dream? What kind of a budget do we need? Can your engine be used to power a R/c Aircraft.

Many thanks,

MRK

izmile

Hello MRK,

Glad that you are interested in building a jet engine.

My pulsejet cannot power a RC aircraft as its too heavy. Besides it is just a prototype engine and I had plans to make a much lighter one. However, the proto engine generated a thrust of 3Kg which is more than adequeate to power a 40 sized airplane.

I can help you in consulting mode but cannot build anything for you as I have moved out of India.

If you are looking for pulsejets then the cost would be around Rs3000 to 5000 for a build. This is a higher cost as most materials have a min-order-quantity. If you are looking at gas turbines then the cost would be roughly about Rs 50,000... (can be more as I have not made a gas turbine yet).

For info on pulsejets, visit my website -> http://chenpro.com/RC/Pulsejet/Pulsejet_main.htm

For gas turbines get the book -> Model jet engines by Thomas Kamps. Excellent book if you want to scratch build a gas turbine further it has a working jet engine plan.

Hope this helps. If you need any specific help do let me know.

Thanks,
-Ismai

You were into viruses too ? ;)  That was my undergrad project. Reversing them and writing vaccines.

BTW, you should use something like Wordpress, to make your site easy to manage, and for added features like search etc.  You can get tons of free templates to make it look great too !

Ya. Thatz been a long time. I have removed the link as it is totally technical but forgot to edit the content. Since the topic generates interest, I think I should include the link. Anyway, the site is just to have a record of my work and if possible to guide others.

May be once I have a little more time, I should sit down and try wordpress stuff. Lets see.
