Hi, I'm Rahul. I'm a Mechanical Engineer from Trivandrum. I got into the hobby last year and love to design and build quads and aircrafts, till date, I have made one quad and five wings.

I work at Fab lab Kerala (www.fablabkerala.in) its a rapid prototyping platform, a government initiative which is a derivative of the global Fab labs movement. Basically, the lab has some cool machines like a Trotec laser cutter, Ultimaker and Stratasys 3D printer, Shopbot 3-axis CNC mill, and a whole bunch of PCB prototyping machines. The best part is that the lab is open to the public, anyone can book a machine and come and use the lab. (check website)

If you want to know more about the Fablabs, please check out the Fablab Handbook

https://github.com/rahulsarchive/FablabHandbook/blob/master/Fab%20lab%20Kerala%20Handbook.pdf

I worked on a few projects with drones and am currently working on developing a UAV. I open-source all the designs I made so other people can continue to develop it. All my projects can be found on my GitHub repo. https://github.com/rahulsarchive

I work with laser cutters, CNC mills, and 3D printers for all my designs. I can help anyone with similar prototyping needs.

I would love to meet other people in this hobby in Trivandrum, do get in touch with me @rahulsrajan01[at]gmail[dot]com or in Telegram @Rahul_Rajan

Best Regards,
Rahul

HI..
Nice to meet you...
like to know more about your lab.. book machine like will there be assistance? like for eg; if i wanna 3d print.. and if i bring the STL file will they do it for me.. or do i have to bring the filament and do it myself (guess it needs some more technical knowledge)..

Anyways nice to know such places exist..

@Al Ham Shari, thanks for the welcome.

Fab lab Kerala comes under Kerala Startup Mission which is the nodal agency for the government of  Kerala. Currently, there are two Fab labs in Kerala. One in KTIZ, Kochi and other in Technopark, Trivandrum. Both labs are open to the public.

@rufussam, There will be people in the lab to assist you in using the machines, and all the consumables can be purchased from the lab, or brought by you, except for 3D printing (lab only). You need to bring the design files (STL, DXF,...) Each machine is charged on a per hour basis (visit site).

The procedure is to create a profile on fablabkerala.in select the machine you want to use, choose the number of hours you need it and book the next available slot.

Regards,

rufussam

Is there any way to know how mucb time a particular STL will take to print before booking so that sufficient hours can be booked..

@rufussam, have you ever seen the quote button in the right hand side of the post? Copying and pasting the same post all over again is causing confusion.

For 3D printing estimates, you can send the STL files to the Fablab manager (email @ website) and he will return an estimate for the machine time and the material consumed.
