Post by: sanjayrai55 on December 31, 2018, 05:51:37 PM
Sad to inform Mr. VK Nagar passed away

He was known as "Flytrack"on the forum

An aeromodeller of more than 50 years standing, he was the founder of the AMAI

He will be sorely missed

When I, John deCruz and Mukul Luthra (IIT Delhi) were teenagers in the early 70s, Mr Nagar and Mr Suresh Kumar (of Hobby Centre, Aurora Models etc) were the people we looked up to.

We must have visited his mezzanine hobby room in Safdarjang Area in Delhi dozens of times.

He even started an Aeromodelling magazine that unfortunately didn't last long.
Some years ago, I'd posted a pic of one of the issues (maybe the only issue?) on RCI.
Will try to find it.

By chance, earlier this month, there was a more poignant contact between me and Mr Nagar, via sanjayrai55...

Rai saheb may post details.
Or I may, after thinking about it.

I have fond memories of Mr Nagar (with his wife and daughters in tow) at Safdarjang Airport at several SMAE rallies...

Asked my wife if she'd met him. She said 'Sure, he had a drone hanging from the ceiling'
Wow, this must have been in 1980, before we were even married, and long before people had heard of something called a Drone!

I don't think his younger brother Ajit would recall that (in 1974!) I'd somehow found out their father's address in the Indian Airlines colony in Begumpet, Hyderabad, and actually visited them. I still remember that Ajit had a very closely cropped crew cut.

Perhaps Rai saheb would share our fond memories with the family, if he's still in touch with them...
