Hi :) I have been interested in rc from a very young age. But I did not get the time or money to get into this hobby before. Now, finally in my second year of college, I have saved up some cash and am eager to start. I am into robotics and have been a regular participant of almost all the robotics competition held in and around kolkata..
I would really like to participate in the air boat competition(aquaranger http://www.ktj.in/#aquaranger (http://www.ktj.in/#aquaranger)) being held at IIT KGP in January. But I am really confused as to what would be a reliable combo of parts. I am also keen on making scratch built planes after I am done with this completion.
I have googled and read many of the posts here and have come up with a list of parts:

But these are stretching my budget to much and am looking for cheaper/better alternatives ???:(
I would really appreciate some advice as I am terribly confused:P
My budget is around Rs.7000
you need this http://www.rcbazaar.com/products/846-funboat-jet.aspx
go to RCTC on sunday you will find a lot of people to help you out
PS
Welcome
Thanks a lot:) But I cannot use a ready-made boat for the competition. It is against the rules, anyways I want to make mine myself..
Hi Trishit I am also from Kolkata and I will also be participating in this fest, and I'll surely help you to the best of my abilities, but I am busy for a couple of weeks due to semester exam, I'll start off with my project after the exams are over, but in the meanwhile I'm Pming you my phone number so you can call me if you need any immediate help.
Thanks,
Rohit.
Thanks Rohit:) I also have my sem now:P I am posting this now so I can get all my parts during the sem and start working on the boat as soon as the exams are over. Do I have to ship the parts or are they available off the shelf anywhere in kolkata?
No, nothing related to RC is available in Kolkata. You will have to buy those parts.
With 2.5 metres between the parallel walls, straight line navigation shouldn't be an issue. Ensure that you use reversible ESC's to act as brakes as you approach junctions and turns. Also you may want to use large rudders (at least 2 of them). I don't know if the sample maze has been drawn to scale. If so, then this competition will be decided only on speed as it will be comparatively easy to navigate a 0.50m X 0.30m boat around the course without collisions.
Stabilisation Strakes at the bottom of the hull seem to be called for, though you may also opt for a tunnel hull. Some interesting reading here:

All the best Gentlemen! You've got me started on a long overdue model.
Derar Trishit,
choose the radio wisely. Many radio controllers malfunction at water surfaces.
Would it be possible for anyone to list a complete list of parts and the best place to get them from, that fit my budget? I only need the complete electronics set-up. I already have the tools and the material needed to make the hull.
Thanks for all your replies! :hatsoff:
I am posting a revised list of parts :) Please tell me if I can get cheaper/better value for money products elsewhere :help:..
