Title: [Build Log] Quadro'X'Copter RCHobbyaddict.com
Post by: anam_funny on May 18, 2011, 01:38:14 AM
Hello all,
Congrats to all the 4 winners of the RCHobbyAddict's Quad rotor. Please note that you will be getting a non painted version. So there will be carbon deposit on the sides of the parts, it may dirty your clothes.

Now comming back to the product. This product can be used as a QuadCopter and also as Xcopter. The difference between the two is the leading edge. See the following pictures for the difference:

Please handle the frame very carefully and assemble it with utmost care because the parts individually are fragile but when put together in the frame make become very strong.

The video may not be clear. So if you do not understand any of the part in the video, please feel free to ask. Basically I made this video to clear out that which part goes where, so that when the customer gets the kit, he/she is not confused after seeing so many parts to put together. :)

The frame is modified after the release also to incorporate a training gear of a 450 Size heli. So if you land your quad, you do not damage the frame. I suggest people to attach a training gear in place of sticking any foam here and there.

Soon I will be releasing combos for the frame. Here is a list of motors that can be used with the frame:
1) hacker Style Brushless Outrunner 20-28M
(http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/catalog/KDA20-26M.jpg)
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=4701

2) Turnigy 2213 20turn 1050kv 19A Outrunner
(http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/catalog/TR2213.jpg)
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=5688

3) Turnigy 2217 20turn 860kv 22A Outrunner
(http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/catalog/TR2217.jpg)
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_listCategoriesAndProducts.asp?idCategory=223&curPage=1&sortlist=&LiPoConfig=&qty=30

You can use any equivalent motor, with ~8X4 Props, prefferably GWS because they are light.

Parts included in the kit:[/u]
1) Laser Cut Parts
2) Screws/ Nuts
3) Zip Ties
4) Fevicol Fevi-Kwik

Other parts required:[/u]
a) ~2200Mah-3200Mah 3S1P 20-25C Lipo
b) Atleast 6Ch Radio
c) 4 x Brushless Motors
d) 4 X Equivalent ESCs
e) UBEC (Optional But Recommended)
f) Controller Board
g) Extra wires (14awg)
h) Connection Plugs

Now the big question commes that which controller board to use. You can use any controller board, and arduino based, KKMulticopter, MultiWiicopter, anything.

We will be launching a KKMulticopter Board soon at very cheap prices. Keep following us to know more.

If you use an Arduino based controller board, you can put addons like GPS, and other funky stuff, but it adds on to the cost. If you are a professional and have good knowledge about quads, then you should go in for Arduino based. To begin with, you can go in for a cheap board, like the KKMultiCopter. The best part of KK board is that you can use the same board with a Tri, Quad, X, hex, Oct, without even changing one part of the board. Just plug in your programmer onto the circuit and load the software of the Model you are building and that is it. In Tri, the Motor 4 is replaced by Servo.

Thank You
Regards

If you can get a good deal on international shipping, you should publicize this on diydrones.com :)

The Board can be programmed using a USB AVR Programmer. However, the board you will order will come with the firmware of the model (quad, X, Tri, Hex, etc)pre installed.

The kits for winners have been laser cut... have ordered some custom length boxes for the same. They will be arriving soon. Will send out the Quad Kits as soon as the boxes arrive....

Thank you Anwar for the idea... Will work upon it...

And my main motive behind releasing this frame and controller board is to make getting into Multi Rotor Helis very easy...

Thank You... Please post your comments on the product as a whole and how the product can be improved...

About the lost screws, I have included extra hardware in every kit... So that should not be a problem... Will improve that packing...

Just an update, Just finalised a deal for nylon hardware... Soon all the hardware will be of high quality Nylon66 material.

The camera mount has also been incorporated and also the legs... All the modifications will be updated in a week...

Those 4 parts are spares, incase you damage any. Yes, you can use fevicol's Fevi kwik on it. It will do the work. You can clean the carbon deposits by a lightly damp cloth or cleaning foam. You can use a sanding paper also, but that is optional. A damp cloth will do the work.

You can even use Damped Scotch-Brite, the green coloured plastic mesh, used to clean tensils to scrape off the carbon
