Has anyone tried the X-Carve or 3040 with 4 axis to make custom RC aluminium parts? I was looking for some reviews of the OEM products please.

Hello Areeb,

This machine is not intended to do metal work, it can little engraving of metal but it is not made for metal cutting and high load cuts will reduce machine life. Plus there is no LM guides nor servo motors.(Servo works in closed loop so gives feed back if desired position is not reached, steppers generally works on openloop no feedback and if motor stops in between due to load).... even there is no ball screw they use acme screw. The atheistic design is appealing but, in my opinion if you cut metal, the speed will be like going to Mumbai to Delhi using moped....so one can do it but very slowly. Aluminium is very sticky to machining....( unless you have special laded grade).... you need to make arrangement for use of coolant/cutting oil, and with coolant you can not use wooden work table. so you can not use   and accuracy will be much less due to play in machine structure(aluminium sections(which are used as guides))... I think this machine can give accuracy within range of 0.3 to 1 mm. Indian VMC of this size should cost should start from 20 Lacs and more than 10 tonnes and accuracy levels are 0.01 to 0.02mm ..... I was working as designer of cnc machines, and about 5 years I have been using them. If you are looking for milled few parts of small size never buy machine there are many people who can do it by charging you hourly starting from 300 Rs per hour and cnc turned parts even cheaper....I can help you in some turned parts.... and guide you for vmc parts.... if you have some spare budget and want to try you may go ahead with it...

Thanks svalambhia! That is useful information indeed. I'll PM you if I need help...I surely do not want to travel from Mumbai to Delhi using a moped.... :)
