well the demo version is not of much use. A more widely used software in my opinion is google sketchup(for scratchbuilders)...and you would get a lot of tips and tricks and how tos here...

with a lot of free extension scripts it becomes a powerful tool

RC CAD is a good softwere but its cost alot to get full version specally for students like me
