I designed and finished building a Hand Launch Glider. Here are the pics.
I am going to test it out on Saturday. Wish me luck, I guess I will need a lot. :-\
Looks good {:)}
All the best for the maiden

Thank you :)
Did you use balsa to make it

that's just high density foam.
I will upload the build video if the glider is successful
Hi. Where did you buy HD foam and how much was it?
u can get better results is u use styrofoam... stiffness weight ratio is excellent
i dont make airplanes anymore but the last time i used blue styrofoam i smiled a lot.
got it form a shop in bangalore near townhall. cant recall its name tho.
Today I learnt myself One big lesson
It is a BAD idea to put symmetric airfoil in a glider especially
when there is no slope for soaring..
My glider was working fine, it turned left, right, pitching up and down but..
it never climbed.
I think it was because of the symmetrical airfoil that i used or it could also be because there was no significant slope from where I tried.
But I am going to try again with a camber airfoil next week with the same fuselage.
So, the bottom line is that my glider design is a flop. But I will try again.
How did you launch?

How did you launch?
nothing fancy. Simply hand launched it against the wind. I am going to try again with
A cambered airfoil next week. That should work.
Well friend...... if the glider flew straight and level with a simple hand launch.... IT DID FLY WELL..... DO not be dissapointed.... a glider does not climb till it is taken higher by a thermal or it is launched by an external device like a Tow line or another aircraft / model.
if the glider is fine try doing another hand launch straight and level to the ground and show he video...
Yes a symmetrical airfoil is not good for a glider. But it does not mean that with a cambers aerofoil it will climb......

I know aircraft cannot climb without thrust. I meant that with a camber airfoil, the glider may stay airborne for longer duration. I know it cannot climb.. Thank you for your kind words. They are encouraging.
Due to lack of any significant slope in my location, my glider could not fly well.
Therefore, I am quitting to build slope soarer or gliders - for now.
I will return with some other project soon ;)
thank you all.
All the best.
Where did you buy HD foam and how much did it cost? also what is the density of your HD foam?
Very neat! Where did you try out the glider? If you have a friend in tall apartment buildings at ecr you can maybe try the hand launch from there ;)
Good luck with your next build!

@Ajay Sarwan - I bought the hd foam in sheet form in nearby fancy store in avadi, chennai. they call it "hi-tech" thermocoal. it costs Rs 45/- per sheet (1mX.5mx2cm)
