Hi Everyone,

I have been a member of this forum for some time and it has been a great source of learning. I have built a
stabilized quadcopter. It has the following Features :

  • Flight Time       :    20 - 25 min
  • Height             :    upto 200ft tested (could go even more)
  • Range             :    500m from my transmitter
  • Payload           :    600 - 800 gm

Here is a youtube video Link of the first flight. Please have a look.

I have also attached some pics of me flying it during my Institute Fest Vivacity this year in Feb

Good one

But the most critical information is missing :)  What controller/gyro setup did you use ?

AyushGupta

I used an Atmega microcontroller and self written code.

What about gyros etc ?

I designed my own PCB and used Accelerometers, Gyroscopes and Magnetometer to create an AHRS (Attitude and Heading Reference System) to help stabilize my setup.

Very nice !  Please do post some close up pictures of the quad itself.

Also, it would be nice to see a full build log here. I hope you have preserved intermediate pictures of the build :)

Thank You. :) ;D  Would surely add more pics and videos...

Why not add feature in Arducopter and other open source project ? If people had continued writing their own Kernel all the time,  Linux, HPC and Android would have never seen the light. You prized code would gather rust if could not dedicate time in future or attract other's attention to refine and maintain it.

Nice one Ayush.

It would have been better if you might have posted more details about your project.

Yes Ujjwaana you are correct, there's a saying in Sanskrit "Wealth decreases if distributed but Knowledge increases on distribution"

Ayush can confirm, but people rarely write such code from scratch.  Typically a standard framework/project is modified to suit the hardware one is using, and do minor tweaks for added stability etc.

Yep, for most people, it seems like more fun to add new features to existing stable code, like these guys are doing ;D

Well its rare but i did start mine from scratch. Codes for all PPM decoding, stabilization, motor controls are self written, though i did use work of Bill Premmerlani  on DCM algorithm for my AHRS.
The Hardware (PCB) is also custom made, as i told earlier.

The general idea with most people is to use off the shelf products and either reverse engineer or tinker it to meet one's need but what i am trying to achieve over here is a complete UAS system with fully configurable features.

Excellent work Ayush. As said earlier most people use existing framework but building your own stuff is something outstanding. That is what scratch building is all about and I encourage the original thinking. You learn a lot when you do all by yourself and you are not biased by others' ideas..

Keep up the good work.

Awesome  I am glad I asked the question !

This is brilliant work!  Could you put up some pics of it during the build? And as Anwar said, a complete log would be great!

Thanks for sharing.

Kind Attention: Ayush

Is your system is stable?
How much Payload?
And
What altitude max it achieve yet?
