Just a simple combat plane made from the last piece of coro i had. Folded the sheet from middle and used a scissor to cut an eagle like profile :) Wing span is 4 feet i guess, have not measured any thing yet. Spar is 8mm CF tube. Wanted to KFm but ended up making a triangular airfoil. CG marked by glide testing the airframe. 2200 KV motor with a 6x4 prop kept just behind CG. Battery will be in a PVC tube pod under the wing.
Motor mount, reinforcement for tail and fuse still laying there :violent:
hey very inovative design
Thanks AshJR :)
please can you supply more details about how it flies, also can you post some more pics, a plan would also be great. I love your work, very clever indeed.
Thanks Boomerang :)
I have not maidened it yet. will try to post some more pics tonight along with measurements.
That plane of yours will fly for sure, "if it looks right it is right", I wish you all the best with that plane and please let us know how it goes, the more of this stuff the better, i wish you well.
Nice design SLS! Do take care of the motor mount. Instead of metal wires and ply on one side, paste ply on both sides and secure the motor with some epoxy and Zipties + Rubber band. Still better, get some proper stick/ply/metal motor mount
I think you have done good job. Really nice.
Would love to see, how it behaves in air.
Can you share more about design.
Thanks ujjwaana! I'll do something about the motor mount. Ply on both side with zipties and epoxy sounds good
Thanks Akshayb! Will post a video of the maiden flight. Seriously there is not much in the design :) will try to post some measurements when time permits.
Till then here are some more pics. Control surface hinges are done with clear tape, hinges and control surface covered with electrical tape to add some cool to it 8) The slot on the leading edge is where the battery will go. I am thinking about a small coro box for battery and strapping the box itself with some velcro on the nose. 8-) now that I'm going to redo the motor mount, i might extend ply at the bottom to go all the way to form a support for the nose.
Very neat design... Hope it would rock on air!!..
Which plane your partner is flying? and how do you do combat.. cutting streamers or trying to hit each other's plane?
-Ismail
Thanks Izmile!
This is basically for combat with foam deltas and EasyStar :P. We are just beginning with combat flying by trying to hit each other's plane :)
Oh so this is the one you designed to get near my easystar ? Bring it on dude >:D
No rudder control !
Nop no rudder, hopefully i'll maiden her this weekend
cool....my flying wing is ready too!...but wont be able to maiden this weekend ...waiting for electronics :(
Still some tweaking required, i've been little busy with work lately >:( and with the other half not in town, everything is chaos :(
i am really worried about this plane man, the glide tests were not very good. Anyways i am thinking i'll get it to the field this weekend and see what happens. Will put the throttle to full and throw it off the cliff ;D
give me a call on your way to the field.
Sure....but i have to work on saturday....can we do this on sunday? so you will get one more day for tweaking.
yep will do, i am also working this saturday :banghead:
I am no expert definitely...but still i have a suggestion for you....see if it appeals to you.
Why dont you put vertical stabilizers at the wing tips...then try the glide test and see if it is better.
Just my 0.9 Rs
Mainly because its is not a swept wing so most of the vertical stab will be in-front of CG or too close to it to be effective. It has got enough vertical surface already, i am sure this is a CG problem. we will play with it on the field, i'll bring some scrap coro and we can try out your idea as well, no harm in trying
Dude,
Here is my newly built combat wing! well its not completely finished yet...just a sneak preview..
Hope that both these planes fly successfully so that we will be able to have some combat fun with them like we did with Ezyies
@bokilap - Just had a small doubt , why are the wing tip stablizers at an inward angle ? Wont It effect the airflow and slow it down ? (sorry if i am wrong , but from the picture it looks so)
Thanks ,
Sahevaan
Yeah, i may have made a mistake, but i just followed the plans ...i will check it out again...anyways it can be easily corrected...thanks :)
Just curious , how will you correct it ? Either you will have to add so coro or cut in order to get that angle.
How did your plane fly SLS?
Have not got the chance to fly it yet, i am going through tough days right now. Just to give a sneak preview, crashed my easystar last weekend, it was in so many pieces that i decided to do a complete overhaul, then my radio started giving me trouble, fixed the radio and flew my newly refurbished easystar only to find out that i had the elevator reversed, fixed that then on the next flight my canopy came off crashing my plane again... i guess you got it :(
$*!& happens dude.Hope your airplanes see better days.
Yes things happen. now you would have learned a valuable lesson to see you control surface movements before flying. I also learned it the hard way after crashing my AXN foater when i flied it first time. But how a guy like you missed it ??? . Hard day I guess. Well all the best for the maiden.
