I made a solar RC plane which flies by using solar energy. This plane is having solar+battery power for flying.
This is the spec of the solar plane:
Wingspan: 78cm,
weight: 160g,
Battery: 500mah,
Solar power: Short circuit current 3 amp max, open circuit voltage 6V,
Control: 3 channel (using receiver brick that includes 2 servos, brushed ESC, receiver)
For more details please check out my video:

As this plane is having hybrid power I also needed to check power contribution from various sources so I also carried out some tests for overall power monitoring :

Wow.... :salute:
Which protocol does it work AFHDS or AFHDS 2A?
I don't have an idea about it as the seller website did not give any information about communication protocol. It works with flysky transmitter, However, it needs to be bind every time we restart the module.
@abhilash_patel,
Excellent!
sir
Beautiful idea
would like to know where this type of solar cell is available in india
regards
ashok
Impressive. May I ask where do you fly?
Very good {:)} {:)}
excellent
Awesome!!
previously it was available in RChydrabad now it is out of stock over there, you can check on ebay.com or aliexpress.
these videos are from Jaipur, but when I am at home I fly near dhagadmal: 20.451179, 73.083102
@abhilash_patel,
I have two requests:
1. There is a young member, karthick ashwath, who was trying 2 years ago, to achieve what you have achieved. He has not posted any msg since March last year, but was last logged on in Jan last week. If you send him a PM about your work, it will be an inspiration for him.
2. Even old aero guys like me are happy to learn something new. So please flood us with data about your solar cells - size, source, flexibility, voltage, amps, motor specs, power consumption etc.
It will help me update myself (built experimental solar cells in 1971 ;D)
Thanks and regards
Even I built a Solar Plane!
Iyer Sir, you forgot mine!
:(
Oops :banghead:
Can you please provide some information, details and photos of it.
Sure Iyer sir,
I will share other data too.
I watched this video. Well made , and your narration was good. I faced issues of Low power when i converted a v911 helicopter into a plane. But i could overcome by using a very high aspect wing. Materials available for me were thermocole and cello tape. Chord length 110mm at centre tapering to 70mm at tips, wingspan 1500mm . AUW= 60gms. My rudder was in the Propwash so it was very responsive. It too was a two channel plane.
Check out this video , may help you .

@pnkj that vid is crazyy... 81 hrs and they only had to land coz of bad weather... incredible,
GOOD job Work more to optimize the time of flight
Here's an entire solar glider playlist https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLS2ntMaPm2ZWX65EkYcmx0DxOaMa6O5S8
