Title: TUFFY - Pusher Prop Model
Post by: Sethji on July 18, 2010, 12:24:24 AM
I have been working on a scratch-build plan called TUFFY. This model has a Pusher Prop design and a glider like profile, which makes it a great electric plane for beginners like me (especially those who are prone to crashes :) ) . So, I thought, I will share some specs, pictures, links to the original designer's plans, etc, etc...

My Tuffy's specs:
Wing Span: 41''
Chord length: 7"
Dihedral: 1.5" (each side or total 3")
Radio Set-up: 3ch (motor, rudder, elevator)
Material: High-density thermocole, fevicol, tape, wooden skeewers, toy-car wheels, etc
Model Weight: 225 gms
Estimated AUW: 550 gms (using brushed motor & NiHm batteries)

The original plans were developed by people at www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1000670 . I think, someone on our forum has also created a similar (but smaller in size) model. The plan and pictures are attached. Comments and suggestions are welcome.

Great Sethji! I have been trying to make my own TUFFY using the salvaged wing (under-chambered) from the Chinese plane

I hope the fuse extending from the TE till the tail is heavily reinforced under the foam.
How much angle you put on the motor ? (-)3-(-)3 ??

Akky,
What Sethji has done is used what is called KFM2 aerofoil. Search RCgroups or even this forum and you would know.
I am salvaging a wing from cheap Chinese plane which has under chambered wing formed using injection molding (industrial method). How ever for my Blue Baby , I indeed made an under chambered wing by 'Heat Forming' method (on depron). search net and you would know. That was a heck of clumsy method.

very well done {:)} {:)} {:)}

Just one thing to know- From where do you get those thermocol (high density) sheet ??? ???

Are they available in local market?

@ chanduvcrc, I got the thermocol from a shop that sells insulation supplies (AC, refrigration, heating, etc)... For those in Kolkata, these shops are located in Lal-Bazar and Gariahat areas.

@Ujjwaana, I have reinforced the fuse extending from the TE till the tail with a light-weight wooden stick (as I did not have any CF rods)... I is pretty sturdy.

@Rohit, I could not maiden this. I left Kolkata, by the time I finished building this. Nonetheless, my parents have stored it, and I will fly this, when I return next year.

Built and flown a slow-stick recently. But, I have migrated to Ultra Micros (because of the cold weather here). Will post pictures soon.  :)
