sunk?

hi guys,
well my electric know how is 'small'
how do I measure 'amp draw'?
I have a digi multimeter....
do I put the meter 'in line' with the motor /battery ......ie replace one wire with the multimeter leads ?  ??? ???
I already blew one meter a while back............had it on wrong setting :) :)

When using a multimeter to measure current, the only way that can be used to measure current flowing is to break into the circuit so that the current passes through the meter.
Some precautions:
- never measure battery current directly without any load (bulb or motor).
- before measuring current , to know approximate range of current can save multimeter fuse.

digital multimeter generally have 3 sockets..
1st  for -ve polarity..
2nd  for +ve polarity...
and  3rd for amperes generally rated at 10 or 20 amperes.
First of all
1. Set  your meter to "AMPs" or "DC Current"
2. Move your probes to the correct holes on the meter. 1 probe is at -ve and 2nd is at current measuring  socket.
3. Connect 1 wire each of battery and load to each other. Connect remaining 2 wires( of battery and load) to probes of multimeter. Display will show the current.

Some words of caution w.r.t measuring current. The currents involved with aero electric motors are high. Simply "cutting one lead" and inserting the probes as shown will throw up problems as the contact resistance at the probe tip will be high.

I have made a simple adapter that converts current to voltage by inserting a low value series resistance with suitable connectors (Deans or XT 60) at each end. I will try and send a picture in a day or two.

For measuring currents like receiver, servo current draw, the technique described would do.
