Hi guys,

What is the rule for selecting a servo. I see they come in various weights which may be an indication of the max force they can endure, but is there a guideline somewhere in the forum?

Based purely on experience I follow the following :
Model weight                      Servo weight
Upto 500 gms                      upto 6 gms servo smaller ones if model weight is lower ( around 1 kg/cm torque )
500 - 800 gms                     9 gms   ( around 1.5 kg/cm torque )

1 - 1.5 kg                  16 - 20 gms ( around 2-2.3 kg/cm torque )
2 - 3 kgs                          36 - 40 gms servos

Of course a lot depends on the type  of flying  severe aerobatics or large control surface actuation  requires  higher weight range in the same group and possibly metal gears .

This is purely my experience nothing technical in my analysis.

Thanks Sai,

BTW, A generic question to all ...
The basic questions that I am asking may also be needed by other newbies as well.
Can we create something of a FAQ / knowledge bank  within this forum where these types questions/answers get archived? Might be better than searching around the various threads.
