Hi,

I am a plane flyer & have no experience of gyros.

I am building a gyro stabilized cam mount & for that I bought HK 401B gyros. When I connect the servo through gyro, it is in normal mode & moving the gyro will give no response in terms of servo movement.

What should I do to change the gyro to AVCS or heading hold mode?

Hobby King site does not have detailed manual.

Please help.

Assuming you have NOT reversed the channel on which you have connected the remote gain wire/connector of the gyro (the one with the single wire), below 50 is rate mode, and above 50 is HH mode.  Futaba does it a bit different, if you use the built in gyro menus (see the discussion here :

If you need more specific instructions, tell us what radio you are using, and what channels you have plugged the gyro wires into.

Thanks Anwar,

I am using Futaba 6X AS. I plugged the gyro to channel 1 & I don't want remote sensitivity control, so I did not connect the sensitivity cable.

Thanks again,

Well, you have to feed in the gain somehow, to get into HH mode.  The simplest (and straight forward) way of doing that is to connect the remote gain wire to one of the spare receiver channels.

There are other gyros (like the GY240) that has a pot for gain, which you can physically adjust. With the 401, you have to use the remote gain connection, FWIK.

Thanks Anwar for the prompt replies. Will check it tonight & will report back tomorrow.

If u are using the hxt servos, set the switch to analog servo and not DS, slightly increase the delay and try. Genrally, there should be atleast some movement w/o the gain wire connected as per my experiance with them. Since I test the Gyros with servo testers w/o connecting the gain wire.

The HK 401B will not enter into HH mode (IMO) if the gain is not fed or is not connected. You need to connect the yellow (gain) cable to operate the gyro. On a 6 EX you may plug it into ch 5 if not used which is on a toggle switch.

These gyros have remote gain and no POT gain (as mentioned my Anwar), so there needs to be an input to the gain for the gyro to switch into HH mode.  :)

Using HXT900/500 in DS mode will surely cause damage to the servo/gyro as they are not digital servos. Please do NOT use DS mode for these servos.
