Can any one guess the material

Rajesh14305

This material is very hard.and light.but I was unable to cut it through hot wire

madaquif

looks like really High density thermocol.

I was wondering what was the temperature of the hot wire??

appears to be what they call as Blue or Green Thermocol.... very dense and behaves like balsa.... Where did you get it.... I been looking for it for some time... though I found some of it in Delhi.. I need more of it.
Well I been into aeromodelling since I was in School....  and then been in the air for over 30 years.  Now looking to be back into aeromodelling full time...

I got it from a airtel tower instrument depot my brother works there

VC

Rajesh, could you please ask your brother what it is used for? We could, perhaps, draw some leads from that. A few better pictures would also help.

It is used for packing and transporting the tower instrument. It is very hard to touch.I tried to burn a little sheet.it gave a cracking sound

VC

Rajesh, if I am not mistaken, that is styrofoam. However, please check the temperature of your cutting wire. It should be able to cut this material easily. Try cutting off a small piece with a knife heated on a flame - it should be easy.

If it is Styrofoam, congratulations, you've found yourself a gold mine!

VC sir,
Some of the stationery shops in Kuwait sells Styrofoam boards which are available in 25mm and 50mm thick. Size could be around 1000mm x 750mm. Price around 300 Rs.
Manufacturer of this products are

http://www.isofoamkw.com/index.htm
If required I will go to the shop and take some photographs and post it.
Also, If this boards are really useful for the modellers I could work out something.
May I ask your opinion whether this foam and the material inside foam boards in India is same ?

This is the wing made from the material

VC

This stuff is light but brittle and will need some protection around leading edges. Can be sanded into beautiful fuselages if you have the patience and carved into wings using hot wire.

Rcparkjets - I know, my stock came from the middle east and I have a few sheets of 25 mm and 50 mm lying around. No it isn't the same as what is sandwiched inside the dollar foam boards. That is more like depron. Less dense, easier to work with.

Rajesh - did you make that wing just now?

Rajesh14305

I made it this after noon.can u give me plan for fuselage

Rajesh14305

I am using favicol  thin coating over it

shobhit17

Well this material is PUF used for insulation and packing.... I got a sample of it from friend Rajesh.... It cuts well with a knife and appears to hold its integrity under a sanding block.  Should be ok... as a trial have asked him to send me a few pieces... 2 ft x 1 feet x 7 cm........... Lets see how does it go.
