How do YOU manage a control horn and push rod arrangement?
I generally build in my holidays where i have very less time to buy and await shipment.
I improvise.
To make a control horn i use scrap balsa or hard plastic and to make a push rods i twist commonly available wire in the hardware stores(picture attached).

I am now thinking of buying clevises and control horns.

Are clevises worth the buy?

i make horns out of aluminium sheet..( available at hardware store)
no clevises only Z-bends

incase you make push-rods. use cycle spokes..!! they have threads at one end and are also hard.

Control horns- Another easy way is to make them out of old tiffin boxes. or for that matter any old angular plastic box.

For me the most difficult are pushrods. Cycle spokes dont pass though the holes of the servo and even if i enlarge the holes, they wont pass through.
My first preference were cycle spokes, but they dont fit.

The idea is to use the thicker stuff (cycle spokes, bamboo sticks etc) for most of the length, and built the ends with thinner dia material like paper clips. The paper clip (or something like that) is tied on to the thicker dia rod with string, and glue is applied  to the string so that rods are fixed permanently and do not slide out.

I use bamboo sticks for pushrods, and straighten spring wire(from cheap refillable pens) to connect them to servos..

Yaar we are indians, and this is what we are demanded for all throught the world.. U know the word "Jugaad  ", this enables we indian to work successfully without the 'documented' resources..

So keep looking at threads, and ull find lots of alternatives for that.. 

I also want anwar sir to start any such sticky thread for intermediate or above level modellers.. It will help us all a lot

All one needs is imagination to improvise. The possibilities are endless.e.g: for pushrods one could use bamboo sticks, kabab sticks, ball pen refills, Piano wires, even broom sticks, cycle spokes, umbrella spokes etc. From the plastic card that remains after removing the SIM chip part, one could make excellent control horns. Like  I said the possibilities are endless.

I am looking for something sureshot. i have improvised enough i even used sim card's package.
I am looking for something studier and direct. because i find it difficult to find a wire that is thin and strong like piano wire.

If you have already improvised all you could and still could not find a way then the best thing would be to buy from LHS or Foreign Hobby Shops.

i have used dental wire's as push rods suggested by scratch built guru astha! .... even i used to crack my head initially about push rods, i used bamboo sticks refills, cycle spokes and so on....

hit some electrical store and ask him for " earthing wire" and chose the least diameter- i haven't tried one but this was suggested by praveen...

u can use brazing rod also.... u can find them in shops selling nuts, bolts, chains... or ask a weldshop guy to spare a few. i've got stocks of them!

I surely will check for brazen rod or dental wire, is there any specification of dental wire, because the one which i came across was too flexible.

Has anyone used a clevis? Is it any good?

I used the rods from an umbrella skeleton in my recent builds. They are made of a light-weight alloy. Also, they have hinge joints, so all you have to do is cut the required length and fix 'em on your plane! I also used a gel-refill for extending the rod in another build.

I always use cycle spoke, mostly on 9gm servos with the servo arm hole enlarged using a reamer made out of a sharpened cycle spoke. For the reamer fold one end in shape of a handle and on the other side sharpen the spoke to form a bevel tip. Something like the attached image.

So the horn doesnt break? i ream it a little but im worried about reaming it too much.
I am assuming you ask for the thinnest spoke.

I just get the regular cycle spoke. i have never had a broken horn, just use the second or third hole from top on the servo arm.

And I use a 1mm drill bit (with a hand-drill). Works well for me!

Guys i want 5 to 10 push rods (average quality) at a good price .Can anyone Supply?Please Help

hi guys.
on the ES5A I made the 'horns' from double thickness card...........
but on this build 'piper super cub' I will be using servo arms .
just cut the long leg off 'with a 1/4 of the center pot' the servo shaft goes into.
then make a  'tight' slot in the control surface and push arm ..'horn'...through and a touch of contact adhesive or super glue to secure....a good use for spare servo arms....
